What makes you think you'll be around to see what happens in NY/NJ?

Layoff and Union

If a company wants/has to lay workers off. It is that company's very right-even its intention is malicious. Union can not change it, but it will try to "persuade" the company not to do so.
So don't be unrealistic think Union is helpless if Union can not prevent it from happening.
BUT THERE IS A RULE OR GUIDE LINE IN THE UNION CONTRACT(WITH COMPANY) AND IT IS VERY SIMPLE :
" seniority "
If the company wants to lay off saying 10 workers. The 10 workers who have least seniorty will be the unfortuned 10.
It does not matter which kind of worker the company wants to lay off. And you will never worry about your manager likes you or not.
Saying NCR wants to lay off 10 CE who are working in retail only and the CE who have least seniority all happen to be working only in ATM. According the RULE, these 10 ATM CE will be laid off regardless NCR actually wants to keep all ATM CE. NCR has to let these 10 ATM CE go-even one of the CE may be the higher manager's nephew- and train those 10 retail CE with ATM and let them work on ATM.
So, our job is more secure if we have UNION longer. The longer you have with UNION the less worry you have when the "LAYOFF" is around.
TO have UNION is good or bad? You tell me.

Its about time the cuts came from somewhere besides the field, maybe this will be a wake up call to all the crooked managers that keep insisting we "generate" more calls to make the numbers even though we just got finished with the yearly "ethics" training. Upper managers have been saying for years not to falsify records to make objectives and yet managers choose to ignore that and if you don't go along, your jobs in jepordy. I want to see what happens to the FODs and AFODs that have been stepping on the CEs for years. Maybe they can put them at FLT doing store visits at wally world. Or better yet make them ATM techs and let them freeze in parking lots while someone monitors the idle time on the GPS that they will have in the van that they all insisted was a good thing. I wonder if the shoes on the other foot how they would feel. But this company will find positions for all of them, just the titles will change, the good ole boy system will never die here.

Anonymous said...

you make it sound like seniority is greater 'n grits. we all know there are many who've been around too long and no longer pull their weight. and then, of course, there's the "higher manager's nephew" who has been around forever and who never could do anything on his own. you've been following behind these characters for years cleaning up after them. because of the unionnnn's seniority rule you're stuck with those two (well, you might not be because you're probably "junior" to them and you'll be the one turning in your id card). but, hey, good news. you can still belong to the unionnnn.

Anonymous said...

You know Mr unionnnnn, I would rather clean the few bad apple's mess than work under bad managers and all unfair situations. I have been treaten many times by a very very mean manager for suspension, but I never loose my sleep for I know I have an Union back me up SO LONG I DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG.
Nothing is perfect. But we have to choose the ONE that can make our life better. And the choice is very clear for us.
You can name 100 things that Union is bad or evil, but we can name 1000 things that Union is wonderful. We are THE PROOF but you?? I don't think you are an NCR CE.

Just stumbled into this website glassdoor.com - that people write in reviews of the company they work for and tell their salary. It is all anonymous. The idea being is that salaries/pay should be known-- and everyone should be paid a fair rate of pay for thier work. The site is free. In order to access the reviews you have to send in a review. Then you can read other people's whole review. If it becomes public knowledge what people are being paid and how they are being treated = new employees may or may not show up to work at the company. Go to
www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/NCR-Reviews-E4212.htm

Ms. Unionnnn,
One thing you just admit but you alway try to deny it:
You just said
"UNION'S PROTECTION".
It is really a great revelation from your mind-not from you heart which you do not have.
PROTECTING WORKERS is the very function of UNION's existance. And it could not be better said from any person than you,a hater of UNION.

By the way, NCR does not hire any illeagal alien. I am a US citizen. English is not my mother language. I may have poor English but I am a very good worker like all other good American workers.
You may use English very well but it will not preveny you from be a Axx Hxxx.

NCR hires according to a strict non discrimination policy. In the union we are brothers and sisters, we respect each other. Everyone in the company benefits when we get along with and help each other. Besides berating your coworkers is just low class.

looks to me as if management is succeeding in creating discord among the masses in order to kill the possibility of creating a coherent unified work force working together peacefully

?????

Anonymous said...

there exists no possibility for a unified work force (coherent or unionized) at ncr. everyone is looking out for himself to ensure his own future. those without any skills will attempt again to bring in the unionnnn but that only ensures you will all fail together. maybe that could be classed as unified, causing the company to play its trump card and dumping the service department so they can outsource the module swapping.

Anonymous said...

Hey Knuclehead above, I've been repairing equipment since I was 8 years old and now I'm over 50. I can solder too, unlike most of the new hires. NCR screwed me out of my pension and then the pay cut. Plus all the other stuff they cut back on like Double Time on Sundays & Holidays My Father is a retired Vice President and he agree's we need a union! Nuti is running this company into the ground. If you don't like unions then get off this blog...

Anonymous said...

NCR hires whomever it pleases, if unskilled workers are hired it's likely because they're cheap. If NCR could've replaced the union CEs in NY/NJ they would have. NCR doesn't pay us more because they like us better than you or because we need more money than you. If you don't like your coworkers, complain to your manager, not the union.

Anonymous said...

perhaps your daddy is correct and you do need a unionnnn since they tend to work on (and work over) the unskilled labor force. you know, make the guy who puts the same screws in the same holes all day long (crossthreading no more tha ten percent) feel like he is skilled at doing the righty tighty thing. but you aren't paying attention. ncr wants you gone. they don't want a service department. you're going to be outsourced, it's only a matter of time and you can shorten that time by voting in a unionnnn. you think I'm here just to harrass you but I'm here to help you see the light, read the writing on the wall. what does how old you are and your ability to solder have to do with anything? I'm way older than you, began working on the 1000 class and the amod like everyone else at the time even though I was a fully trained and experienced electronics technician and soldering is a piece of cake. my point is, hard as it is to take, you guys aren't in any way special anymore, and even though you've been threatening for years to leave you never did and now you're stuck. please don't tell me the unionnn is going to save you, you know better.

you're a fool said...

WCS is making more money than any other group at NCR, you're a fool if you think they want to leave the service business

Anonymous said...

So MR. NCR thinks the company can get along with a few Super CEs to show the rest of us how it's done. Good luck with that. Why does NCR leave a union in place in NY/NJ? After all they could've just let the contract expire and used the 300 scabs to replace the 200 union CEs. That would've shown all of you the futility of joining a union. Fact is 100 RTSScabs couldn't sheperd 200 Replacement Workers in NY/NJ. So NCR made an inside deal to move Exec. HQ. to 7 WTC in exchange for a favorable ruling by the arbitrator. It didn't go entirely in NCR's favor, we still make more money, have better working conditions and have the security of seniority unlike the non-union NCR world.

YOU CAN SPEAK YOUR MIND TO MANAGEMENT IN A UNION said...

Yes another good thing about having a union is. You can speak your mind.

As long as you’re respectful you can even tell the Nutjob "his greed is destroying this company, not unions or what CE3s were getting paid". And there is not a thing he could do about it because of a union protecting us. I bet his "yes men" wish they could tell him what they think. When he moves here to NYC I'll remind him of that every time I see him. Maybe it will turn into our union greeting anytime any of us see him.

Anonymous said...

when was the last time you told "nutjob" anything? you never have. how can you say the unionnnn lets you say whatever you liike to him? you talk to your shop stewardess. the unionnnn talks for you and says not what you want but what they want. but what the hell, you guys are incapable of thinking for yourselves and therefore require a unionnnn to talk for you. maybe someday you'll get what you want, you deserve better but you'll settle for being led by the nose by someone who is picking your pocket with your permission. the good news is it won't be for long. outsourcing is on the horizon and the torpedo you see coming is targeted for you.

Anonymous said...

I can tell, "Mr. Unionnnnn" you have never been in a union. I have told management how I felt plenty of times with no fear of reprisal because the Teamsters contract protected me.

The only one's who ever picked my pocket without my permission was Bill Nuti (our Leader and Thief) and the tax man.

If NCR outsources then they outsource, I'll get buy. There is nothing special about working for NCR anymore anyway. There are lots of good union jobs in this city that pay very well.

Anonymous said...

Mr NCR likes to think people listen to him, you may have heard him on a conference call. He's the one telling you how great NCR is for employing you because no one else would ever hire you. He speaks his mind as long as it's what he thinks the boss wants to hear. He thinks he speaks with authority but everyone just tunes him out because he has never made an intelligent or original statement. There may only be 200 of us right now that speak with one voice and that voice isn't loud but it's honest, it's strong and it won't be ignored. at least not by the management of NCR whether they like it or not.

be assured you won't find sympathy on this site. but the unionnnn will give you a hanky to cry into while they pick your pocket.

CE layoffs are coming... Big RIF... My manager spoke to me in confidence. My loyality to him or NCR is NO MORE!!! Watch your back. It is going to start with CEs who are already on PIPs. And then older, higher paid guys. He then proceded to say that there will be a hiring of just CE1s as replacements. They will also try to bust the union again in NY/NJ. No need to believe me. You will see for yourselves in the very near future.
Sorry for the bad news.

Is there really anyone at NCR that didn't somehow think this was going to come around. When you roll a boulder down a steep hill it is only going to gain speed. In all honesty when was the last time an NCR employee had good, uplifting news from NCR? It's been nothing but bad negative news for years now. I hope the union guy's make it, but knowing NCR like we do don't you think they will do anything and everything they can to break the union? Fight on gents and good luck.

It would be just like them to have a layoff, in spite of the fact that we can't make the numbers they want now without a lot of lieing. And to get rid of the older, experienced guys that can work on something other than walmart would also be consistent with all the other BS they are doing. I am glad that some of the managers got a taste of scrambling for positions, but most of them are stll making the same saleries to do easier jobs than they had, not a bad deal if you can get it.

Michelle Teeter vs. NCR Corporation

An update:
Dear NCR CE's, I've been hearing there are quite a few of you wondering what is going on with the settlement of the case and wondering why you haven't received any notice yet. Why NCR sent that email out to all of you making it sound like it was a done deal only a couple of days after I signed the papers is anyone's guess. Corporate management, their legal council knows just as well as mine, that the settlement has to be submitted to the court for approval before anything could move forward. Personally, I think they made the announcement as a strategic move aimed at creating the illusion that the other side is dragging their feet. I assure you, not true. Here's the updates I have received and the dates I received them. Keep in mind however, my attorney is not the administrator of the settlement fund. From what I understand, a
3rd party professional administrator is given the duty of calculation of each employees individual amount and distribution of the settlement fund (sending out the checks).
_____________________________

April 03,2009-
I am hopeful that the Court gives preliminary approval to the settlement on Monday, which will then start the process of notice to the class. If all goes according to plan, notice will go out sometime in May and my best estimate of when payments would go out is October.

April 07,2009-
good news--the court preliminarily approved the settlement. Class notice will go out in the next month or so and the final approval hearing will be at the end of July. I'll keep you posted.
_______________________________

So just like always NCR is just playing head games with the CE's.
My personal all time favorite has to be when we were told no raises, no money for bonus, no Christmas parties(we never had one of those anyway Ebenezer Scrooge!)
Shortly after, Mr. Nutti was given a $7,000,000.00 bonus! Other top execs got another 3 million.
Q-When did NCR become AIG?
A-When Nutti took over I guess.

I wish you all the best.
Respectfully yours,
Michelle Teeter

"SICK OUT"!!! Lets pick a day soon!!!

Anonymous said...

In response to Michelle Teeter's update above,

Some one at NCR has problems with cause and effect relationships. "If you yank the chain on a toilet, you cannot blame it for flushing." This is cause and effect. NCR does something and gives absolutely NO thought as to how the employees will view that action. There is no thinking going on there at all.

A huge part of management is understanding how you, the manager, appear to OTHER people. If you, the manager cannot grasp that- then you cannot manage. On a simple level, let's say a boss comes into work every day with an attitude on. Well that goes thru the whole group- the whole group gets tense. The boss has set the tone for the day. It's up to the boss to realize he has created this problem. When this is going on at the corporate level, employees become detacted from the company. They take small items home wiht them, they leave work early, and so on. All kinds of crap goes on. Because they do not feel any sense of belonging to the company.

Someone at NCR is out to lunch. I mean that in the worst sense you can think of. I'm glad to say I don't work for NCR...

Anonymous said...

I agree with the poster above, but I think its even worse, the management is telling everyone that we are not important to the companies sucess and that we can be replaced at anytime. The managers are basically saying either live with it or leave, and thats exactly what a lot of people are doing. You notice on these employee surveys they only ask for seniority up to 5+? Thats because thats all they really think most of the people they hire are going to stay before they burn out on all the BS they dish out daily. My thanks to Michelle for having the guts to stand up to the corporate madness that says we need to start working 1/2 hour before and after our shifts and don't dare take a lunch that will miss an SLA, of course you never get a break on the onslaught of calls coming in, so, no lunch for you today, eat a grease burger in between calls and just be glad you have a job, while the managers go on down the road to figure out how to make life even more miserable for you. I think its time to fight back and let them know we are mad as hell and we aren't taking anymore!!!

ncr leadership is stupid said...

Management isn't smart enough to figure out that, with the wages they are paying, they can't hire somebody that can fix anything, and won't steal money from an ATM!

Thanks in advance.

the 30 prior to shift is not part of the lawsuit. the lawyer said that is a gray area and not part of the lawsuit...what some i know do is leave the house at 7:30 and go to their first call but do not start working on the the call until 8:00 or answer you phone or use the rim until that time. .. that 30 minutes is YOUR time.. do not do any company work on that time. if your boss says something to you about not answering the phone before 8:00 tell him you do not get paid for that time so you cannot do company business then unless he pays you overtime for it...and then it is a 2 hr minimun as a call in..

Anonymous said...

In New Jersey the law is that if your company vehicle is used for 80% company use, they have to pay you from the time you get in till the time you get out of the vehicle. Our vans are 100% company use, so there is no doubt that we should be getting paid for this time. This was brought up to the Teamsters, but has never been persued. I wish someone would look into this.

Th way the managment works here, is the more they can scare people to work more for free, the better they look to their boss. Therefore they think they are saving their own miserable 100 hr a week job. Then when they still can't get the numbers because all the CEs quit, then they get fired for being incompetent and a new guy comes in, that tries the same old crap all over again. Thats why the companies spending wheel barrels of money to send CEs from other areas to other areas to cover for sorry management and a company that wants to always do things cheaply. As the old saying goes "you get what you pay for" and this company thinks if it creats enough high paying management jobs, they will drive the bottom line, and the bottom line is simple, if you keep your front line employees happy, you will have success, and if not, you get as little as they can produce and get away with it. So if they want you to leave 1/2 hr before your shift, grab a doughnut and a newspaper, and sit in the parking lot and read until you feel like getting out and getting started. Its that simple, if everyone runs 1 less call a day, that about 3000 calls a day thats not getting done and the managers all look like crap because the numbers are bad, then no bonuses for them and they get screwed like they have been screwing the CEs for years. In sll the years I have been here, its always been said, you can only run one at a time, so quit stressing out about things you can't control and live longer and let the managers deal with all the stress. Have a great day!!

Anonymous said...

You can get back a little of what you've lost in a class action suit but the company doesn't change anything for the better. After the lawyers get paid you'll be lucky to get 20 cents on the dollar won.
After working for this company with and without a union, I can hardly believe what a big difference having a contract makes.
It's time for the CEs to get the extra stress and crappy working conditions out of the job.
It's time to get a union in.

Anyway, lets try and get the ball rolling again. We need the backing of a union.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe that all you guys still have not stepped up and signed in the UNION. I am a TEAMSTER and Absolutly would never work for this company withiut a Union.

Anonymous said...

The problem is, the people at NCR have always complained and not followed through after management makes a bunch of empty promises. We want to believe that management will do what they say, but time and time again, they don't. However, the union gets voted down, and the same old crap keeps happening. When is everyone going to understand that the managers will say ANYTHING to get you to do MORE for LESS. Even the ones that come across as being fair and decent are still trained to bend the rules to the needs of the company and hide from you what you are entitled to at all costs. Like the "no comp time for any reason" rule, yea right. Instead you work 16 hours straight and have to comp some time to get sleep or risk your life and others out driving around half asleep. Not to mention, if you get pulled over and the police think your to tired to drive and give you a ticket, you get to pay the fine as well. But if you tell your manager your too tired to work, they will tell you to sleep for a little while and then come to work, and all the calls you get that day will be missed SLAs, and they chew you out for missing them while you were asleep. Mark my words, it isn't going ot get better as long as there are no controls in place to stop the madness, you make the call.

Well, one mor epoint for NCR, We had a guy that got fired after 31+ years for a bad PA that was out of his control. Everyone better watch out, they can make you look bad by giving you old calls and even though they say not to "doctor" the numbers by changing calls and lieing, if you don't, your numbers won't be up to "standards" and out the door you go. Its funny how its the guys thay make the most money are suddenly unstaisfactory.

The time has come for some of you to get your dignity back, for some others to get a shot at a job with a future. For all of you it's time to vote a union in. It's time to tell NCR to stop putting your lives at risk, that your families' economic security is important to you and that you're all willing to stand together and demand decent wages and working conditions. Maybe some companies don't need unions, maybe unions can't fix everything but if anybody ever needed a union, it's the NCR CE.

Anonymous said...

give it up! you're pissing into the wind. your fellow ce isn't interested in a unionnnn. that has already been proven. those of you who didn't get out when you were threatening to leave are losers and destined to be bottom dwellers. just learn to like the taste of everyone elses excrement and you'll get over your whining. And the reason lawyers go after a class action lawsuit is because they get paid by each signee. you all get the same bill. if he "worked" 100 hours then each of you owe him for 100 hours or an agreed upon percent. each of you is an individual client. clients in a class action suit go home empty handed while the attorney is rewarded beyond imagination.

Anonymous said...

Hey Jackass, Keep Blowng Nutti, that's what you do best. As far as the class action suite goes I don't give a crap if I don't get a dime, it's the principle of the whole deal. NCR has screwed us and now it's payback time!! If ever there was a company in need of a union it's NCR. Problem is they got rid of most of the old timers back in 2000 and now there are only a few of us left. They've hired lots of newbie computer nerd types that are a bunch of pussies & think it's a great job. So the rest of us that are over 50 are screwed. If we leave for another job our pension is divided in half of what we'd get if we stick around to 62. So keep sucking Nutti's dick you moron!

Anonymous said...

You don't have to take your retirement when you leave, you can wait till 62. It's only if YOU decide to take it before 62 that it is prorated. Get a clue DUDE.

Anonymous said...

If you've been here a year you're practically an old timer already. You may have heard the promises, how long will you wait for things to get better? If you'd voted to organize last year, you'd be getting a pay increase soon. Will you wait again? The Teamsters get an increase July 1. As an individual you become too expensive to retain after 6 years. That's the current thinking at NCR. Those of us who've been here for 18 or so years know that makes no sense but top management hasn't been around long enough, nor do they understand our job well enough to see that but they hold our future in their hands. Unless we join a union.

Anonymous said...

like I said, if you're still here after threatening to leave, you're stuck here. accept your fate and quit your bitchin' and go back to work. Be a man, earn your pay and try to earn back the respect you lost when you opened your mouth and all the filth fell out. you're only a repairman, you don't know how to run the business of you'd be in the corner office. the unionnn won't give you control of the company either. a smart man would make the best of his situation. a dumbass makes waves for himself.

Anonymous said...

True enough, the union won't give you control of the company. Forget that corner office, NCR doesn't promote from within anymore either. If you like doing more work for less pay, if you like longer hours and greater stress, if you have no self respect left, then shut up, accept your fate and make the best of your situation. If all that is unacceptable to you then vote in a union and start turning things around.

Anonymous said...

All this company has done since the Hurd and Nuti era hit is cut cut cut, and along with that, demoralize the workforce and make it full of stress and discontent. Then they wonder why things aren't going so hot!! I believe that to succeed a company has to have an open line of communication, and the only thing they want to hear is lies and numbers, not the truth. But they spend a lot of time talking about truth in reporting, but, at the same time when you get that 3 day old call in your que, surely its a charge call, right?? (wink, wink), and along with that, go talk to the cashier on the lane your close to and get the serial number and write a "proactive" call to offset the misses for that day, and make the overall numbers "look" good. What a place to be. Lets get the union nationwide, at least we might have a voice, and if the company goes under, at least we will see it coming, instead of letting the "leadership team" do it alone.

Anonymous said...

well sounds lik some o the silent people need to start the process then
contact steve smith

Anonymous said...

have a voice in what? running the company? you're smoking some pretty powerful stuff! you all need to start reporting the truth and let things fall where ever they may. what are they going to do, fire you? fire all of you? based upon your daily bitchin' you have no need to protect your boss so go ahead and input the truth on your handheld devices. that is the only thing that is going to make any changes. I've forgotten who it was a while back who said he wanted nothing but the truth in reporting. he still hasn't seen anything resembling the truth and you're still playing the same stupid games that have been played for the last 15 years with creative reporting. you don't need a unionnnn to tell the truth.

Anonymous said...

Don't be misled, the union doesn't give you a voice in running the company, it doesn't have anything to do with running the company. The union doesn't tell you how to do your job. The union is you and your coworkers, with some legal help. Together you make up a contract, elect a negotiating committee and eventually vote on the final draft of that contract.
You want to run the company go get an MBA. You want better working conditions, pay and job security, get a contract.

I thanked Michelle a long time ago, I know it's not a lot of money by the time its get divided up, but it's better than nothing. I just wish that the prolem of these guys expecting something for mothing would stop, even after this settlement, nothing seems to have changed in this area, they still think you should be available anytime night or day to do their bidding, and answer stupid questions, and not be paid for it. I guess it will take a major incident to get their attention, but I doubt it will ever happen. In the mean time I will take my money and bank it in preparation of the collapse of the company the greedy managers are sure to accomplish.

To NCR CE's:
From Michelle Teeter

Lately I have been hearing from many of you that have received their notification about the settlement and how large the award amounts are. Many express being happily surprised. I couldn't be more thrilled for every one of you.
Although not nearly enough to make up for what NCR has taken away from you, this money will hopefully provide you and your families with some financial relief after the year of no bonuses or raises for CE's despite the $10 million our CEO and execs received.
If this has angered you, trust me, you are definitely not alone.
If you wonder how it happened, it was because they work under the terms of a contract. The very same kind of contract you're told, CE's just don't need.
If CE's worked under a contract stating they got a raise, they would have received it just like Nutti and the other execs did.
Since the CE's don't have one, well you see what happened, right?

I ask you to reflect momentarily on the power of just one. Now try to imagine the power that you and all of the CE's would represent if combined into a voice for your interests.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers can be there to speak on your behalf. They will be your advocate and your voice at the bargaining table when NCR has ideas like,"How about no raises for the CE's this year?"

IF YOU DO NOTHING NOW and remain silent, then silence WILL be all that's heard the next time some executive makes a propositon like this and wants to take something else away from the CE's.

Do you want someone who can be there and who will be able to say,
"OH NO YOU WON'T !!
You can't get away with doing that to the CE's represented by the IBEW Union!!
Why?? Because they have and work under a contract now."

This time ALL OF YOU need to get involved. Help yourselves by helping out and together in union brother and sisterhood, so much more can get done.
Workers in a union make 30% higher wages then non-union workers. If you feel you deserved more then the last raise you got,I want to hear about it!
Now, lets do something about it!

It was my honor and privledge to have stood up and fought for every CE.
I promise I will continue to fight for the CE's of NCR, right along with YOU and other CE's and WITH the help of the IBEW.

Sincerely,
Michelle Teeter

Michelle: I am an outsider who took an interest in this NCR situation. As a Union Member for a very long time, I commend your courage and tenacity - I was pleased to see you have become a Field Organizer. A proven leader like yourself is just who is needed. Results ARE possible - you have proven it. If I may offer some advice, you are right-on when you emphasize "CONTRACT"...it is the single most important benefit one can have. Continue to drive home that one point, above all others. You have already done so in pointing out that the CEO's and Execs ALL have contracts, and if profits come up too short to fulfill their contracts, they simply take from those who DO NOT have a contract. Nothing could be simpler, yet so many people cannot seem to understand this. That's where you come in. All the best of luck to you, and to the folks you are trying to help. I'm old now, so all you younger folks need to humor me when I remind you that the Middle Class in this great country is slowly fading away. If it dies, the USA as we know it dies with it.

Customers will run away, until NCR pays CE's a decent wage, with a 100% matching 401k

Anonymous said...

It's hard to believe that anyone would say that NCR CEs joining a union would drive customers away. We've been Teamsters in NY/NJ for 35 years and our customer base has grown. An occasional customer has gone and come back, some have gone and not come back and some have chosen us and decided to keep us.
They do it because of the products and services we offer. If anything is true it's that a union will help draw in and retain customers because our union CEs can focus on the job instead of the whims and demands of their local manager. Even that famously anti union store chain from Bentonville has been opening new stores in NJ for 15 years or so. If customers ran away because of our union, where's the proof?

Anonymous said...

no one said joining a unionnnn would drive customers away. what they sais was if a customer heard this guy open his mouth they'd run away, and fast. no one with any sense would associate with the idiot. but isn't it just like a unionnnn member to put up words that weren't said to incite the others. isn't there something on the open market that can be used to check the growth of ignorance?

I am a member of the IBEW and have been for 10+ years now. If good pay, great benefits, and a better quality of life with the strength of many is not what you're looking for, then I am sorry for you. For all of you who support a union in your workplace I encourage you to keep up the fight, get informed and spread the word. For those of you who don't, please fight the urge to be ignorant and educate yourselves on what a union really means. Corporate America wants very badly to keep their stronghold on the money and they are fueled by greed. You as a worker can make your voice heard by joining the voices of many! Stop settling for such a small piece of a very big pie. Don't let fear get in the way of progress. Knowledge is power and talking with the union and seeking out information on your own is how to obtain this knowledge. I have been and am proud to be a dues paying member of the IBEW. I have a healthy and secure pension, great medical benefits, and the ability to (along with the other 2500 members in my local) negotiate my wages and demand a fair living. Through the IBEW I now make $37.00 an hour on my paycheck and around $50.00 an hour overall with my benefits package.

I think I got the NCR CE's figured out. They are hoping that the new Administration will pass the Employee Free Choice Act and a huge number of american workers will unionize. But not NCR. They will start "talking union" again, in the hope that NCR will get worried enough to up the pay and benefits just enough to keep a union out. Why not? NCR CE's, with the sole exception of the Teamster CE's, have been doing this for the last 30 years !!!!!!!! I wonder just how low they intend to crawl to keep from paying those awful union dues. Maybe Wal-mart was right when they said "you pay your people too much, NCR !!"

Union members earn better wages and benefits than workers who aren’t union members. On average, union workers’ wages are 30 percent higher than their nonunion counterparts. While only 14 percent of nonunion workers have guaranteed pensions, fully 68 percent of union workers do. More than 97 percent of union workers have jobs that provide health insurance benefits, but only 85 percent of nonunion workers do. Unions help employers create a more stable, productive workforce—where workers have a say in improving their jobs.

NCR announces investment to create jobs, drive innovation and develop talent
June 2, 2009
NCR selects Duluth, GA for its worldwide headquarters campus and Columbus, GA for a new North American manufacturing plant
Decision builds on global Center of Excellence for its worldwide customer services business in Peachtree City
DAYTON, Ohio – NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) announced today a major investment in innovation and people that will lead to the creation of 2,000 additional jobs in the State of Georgia as a result of a new global self-service innovation headquarters and a state-of-the-art manufacturing site for the company’s next generation NCR SelfServ™ ATM family.
NCR’s latest investment follows its announcement last October that it would establish a global Center of Excellence for its worldwide customer services business in Peachtree City, creating 916 jobs. NCR’s retail line of business is already based in Duluth, GA.
NCR decided to create a single innovation hub for its worldwide headquarters in Georgia after extensive analysis of potential US locations, using independent data on the available workforce, infrastructure, financial incentives and government tax structures.
Approximately 1,250 additional jobs will be created at NCR’s existing facility in Duluth, GA, by centralizing business strategy, technology development and support functions into a single US campus from several offices, including NCR’s current worldwide headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. NCR’s operations in Dayton will continue to include its data center and support for local customers.
Approximately 870 jobs will be created at a new Columbus, GA site, which NCR will use to manufacture advanced ATMs, including intelligent deposit, to drive its leadership in the North America market. NCR is to begin recruiting immediately for its manufacturing plant. The City of Columbus will use stimulus funding, provided by the Economic Development Authority, to purchase the building for the plant, which will be leased back by NCR.
"The decision to consolidate functions in Georgia and build a technology focused corporate headquarters campus is right in line with our business strategy to drive growth, improve our innovation output, increase productivity and continually upgrade our focus on the customer," said Bill Nuti, NCR’s chairman and chief executive officer. "We will decrease time-to-market for innovative solutions, improve our internal collaboration, deliver next generation employee education programs and lower our current operating costs. NCR is already benefiting from Georgia’s pro-business environment through our existing operations. For example, we have recently created NCR University, working in partnership with world-class academic institutions in Georgia."
"Today's announcement is just the latest example of how strong the relationship is between this great multi-national company and our state," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Georgia is a global destination for international commerce, and I know our vibrant corporate community welcomes yet another headquarters location of a worldwide leader such as NCR. We look forward to helping the company thrive thanks to our global business environment, outstanding education and workforce development initiatives and a quality of life that is second to none."
NCR’s headquarters centralization will begin in July. NCR will work with those employees impacted in order to provide career services support and advice.
About NCR Corporation

just do as many do. leave the house at 7:30.. do not answer any calls until 8:00. drive to your first call and sit in your van until 8:00 even if you get there before that. after the first call go process your parts. when you sign out to lunch do not answer the phone and take your full hour for lunch. make sure you put in your rim your return time when you sign out. at 5:00 make sure you are headed home and turn off your phone. if you are on call make sure you charge overtime for any time outside of your regular hours-if you are on the phone with dispatch or anyone else with ncr then charge overtime. it is your right..

How do I know where to go for my first call? It's an honest question. The only way I know of is to check my call que. Isn't that work? So if I look at my Blackberry, I'm working. I won't look at it till 8am. Nutjob, do you want another lawsuit?

Anonymous said...

I discussed the above 2 items with the lawyer in the tettle suit. He said the 30 minutes we are "supposed" to give away every morning and night is a gray area right now and he didn't think he could win a lawsuit about that. If you can get away with charging overtime for it good for you. As long as you are just traveling to a call you aren't supposed to charge for it. But do not do parts, email, or phone work on that time. If dispatch doesn't send you a call before 8:00 then don't worry about it. If your boss asks why you didn't call in to see if there are any calls out there just tell him you don't get paid until 8:00--or start of shift..

Anonymous said...

If you are supposed to be on site at 8:00 AM, you would have to have been given the work order previous to check out the day before. You shouldn't be required to use their RIM device on your time. If you have an office you could be required to start there at 8:00 AM, even though it often takes longer to get to your first call than it would if you had left home at 8:00 AM. If you join the union you'll have it in black & white and you'll never have to give your time to NCR for free.

I read on the internet that in NJ it is based on the amout of personal usage of your company van you have. If van is used 20 % personal you eat commute. If van is 100% company use, as ours are, you are working when your butt hits the seat until you get out at the end of the day. I brought this up to the Teamsters, but no one was interested in persuing this. I wish someone with the resources would find out if this is true.

They wouldn't put it on the internet if it wasn't true.

ncr is retarded said...

The policy used to be the commute time was to your closest customer. So if your closet customer was 30 min from your house, you had a 30 min commute. if the closet customer was 5 min, then you had a 5 min commute time, so you would leave the house 5 min before your shift. This is a more fair way to structure it.

You can't realize how much abuse the ENTIRE CE workforce is recieving. Literally at the mercy their TM's policies (hard to believe but a couple good ones still exist but very rare) The only thing that's different is the variety of ways used to do it and to what degree.
I'm speaking from experience when I tell you that even a policy that NCR may have written, posted and distributed(Example-electronically on HR website or in writing ie.CE Handbook)can't be legally enforced. You can not make them accountable for it and enforce the terms of it.
Trust me, I found it VERY hard to swallow myself...
So why is that? It's only a policy, it may be in writing but it doesn't matter.
IT'S NOT A CONTRACT!!
NCR can create all the policies they want to make you think they are going to do this and that, but in the end... the truth is only a signed legal binding contract can be enforced legally.

With that said, anyone know where we might be able to get one of those??
Oh yeah, that's right..
We would get one with the union!!

The managment knows full well that there's no way to do this job without working off the clock at times. Like what about when you return from vacation and have to check schedules to make sure when your working, I returned friday and am scheduled to work sunday night, if I didn't check in, I would have 2 weeks of junk to catch up before I work a day shift. They got it all figured out to maximize the amount of time they get for free. Think about it, if you opt in on the lawsuit, you are agreeing to never sue them for this practice again, think about that.

THAT IS NOT TRUE. I AGREED TO OPT IN. I DID NOT SIGN ANYTHING THAT SAID THAT I GAVE UP ALL MY RIGHTS TO TAKE NCR BACK TO COURT IF THIS CRAP CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. DID YOU?

NCR has increased the pressure to work off the clock. It's time for more lawsuits, and a vote for the union.

the best example you could come up with for working off the clock is making a phone call to find out what shift you're on? that's pitiful. you don't need a unionnnn, you need a nanny.

Anonymous said...

I believe poster Eugene is correct: opting into this settlement only precludes you from any claims DURING THE PERIOD COVERED BY THE SETTLEMENT. You are free to enter any other claims, for periods Before or After. It should be obvious that NCR is continuing to gamble that another Michelle Teeter is not going to come along. Comments? - would love to hear "unionnnn-guy's" twisted logic on this one.

Checking E-Mail, working parts, reading bulletins, checking calls and shift times, are all WORK. It doesn't matter what it is. NORMAL jobs don't have the ability for the HOURLY employees to check all that stuff while not at the workplace, which means, they are WORKING WHILE ON THE CLOCK. I don't know who the unionnnn idiot is, but WORKING is WORKING, no matter what you say, and NCR management got off real cheap to get all the FREE hours they got for a few million dollars and then not change the behavior that created the lawsuit in the first place. I remember when they were required to give 2 weeks notice of a change in shift, so you wouldn't have to check in early from vacation. Don't you see that all these few minutes of time that you give away every week, add up to be big bucks when they are added up. But if you don't do it, you show up on some report and they threaten you with your job for not making some number. Its all about having everybody just be in the "I'm just glad to have a job" mode and they will do whatever they ask to keep the job. If you haven't looked lately, its tough for people over 50 to find a job, not to mention, We worked damn hard to get what few perks we have at NCR, but they are slowly taking everything away, and theres nothing to stop them except maybe gatting a contract that they have to go by.

I heard from my boss that the RTSS positions are going away. Has anyone heard the same? He said that there will be just 1 Regional Specialist @ $61000 a year in a area with higher cost of living areas and less in all other areas.. Expected to travel to all sub offices in his/her region. No Company van and no OT.

Anonymous said...

I may have misread the statement that says. The settlement provides that each person who completes and returns the Consent to Join form and cashes his/her settlement check "releases and forever discharges NCR (including its respective predecessors, sucessors, assigns, officers, directors, agents employees, and all affiliated, parent or subsidiary companies, including FLT) from any and all wage and hour claims or causes of action of any nature whatsoever" during the class period, including any claims unknkown to exist at the time of the settlement. I am not a lawyer, but it could be argued that during the claim period only means this lawsuit, but it could also be argued that "forever discharges NCR means forever, and that any causes of action of any nature whatsoever, means that you are saying you are settling for this amount to compensate you for lost time forever. If in doubt, pay a lawyer 150.00 before sending it in. I am an old guy, I am taking my money and running for the hills.

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't be suprised if the RTSS positions go away, they were a stop gap measure to have a ready force of people to travel at a moments notice in case of a mass walk out, or a strike, which we know never happened. Half of the RTSS's that got the jobs didn't have as much training as the CE.s they were supposed to support, so why the hell call them to get a " I don't know" call level 2

ok the settlement opt in is for the period tht is prescribed for in the settlement agreement

which means to settle and can never go after ncr for the period 2005 til whenever everyone agreed i think feb 2009

if ncr does not install provisions to prevent this from happening in the future then another lawsuit can come about just excluding the period we settled for

i agree

Un-answered Questions?
Anyone who has questions about the settlement and the conditions of the release statement you would be signing and agreeing to can try going to:

That is the site of the 3rd party administrator in charge of giving out the money.

Lets forget about the settlement. Take the money any lets move on. It helps out with some of the monies that we lost. But its a small win.

Now, lets concentrate on getting a union and secure the rest of our career here and reap all the benefits that a union can provide.

Remember what was said a while back, NCR will be outsourcing our jobs soon. I predict it will happen with the end of contract in NYC. NCR recently purchased and formd an alliance with 2 outsourcing companies both here in the US and Canada.

Lets not be stupid this time around. It will be time to start up a new vote. Lets vote yes this time. You guys need to understand how important this thing really is!!!

Anonymous said...

I would say that except for mister unionnnn,(who we all know is a company plant), everyone here agrees we need a union. But pleading for people on this site to vote for a union is pretty silly. Everyone here KNOWS that. You need to be telling the CE's who DON'T come to this site. This site has dwindled to nothing because no one is talking it up among their own coworkers. As for mister unionnn, the best thing to do is totally ignore that ass. He just tries to get a rise out of you, and baits some of you very well. I mean, dont even acknowledge his very existance. Dont cuss him, disagree, get mad, just IGNORE him. And to the guy who said "Customers will run away, until NCR pays CE's a decent wage, with a 100% matching 401k", what color is the sky in your world? Do you think any of our customers give a sh*t how we are paid or what benefits we get? Get real.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the above poster, its the Wal-Mart style of management that has created this mess that we are in. Intimidation and fear, and NEVER let anyone know they are important to the success of the company. Instead have the managers tell the people that they have a line of people that want to take your place, and you can be replaced overnight. Even though most of the people that are hired now are totally unable to do the job and then they lean harder on the few people that have the skills that Cheadle and company think are no longer needed in this "module swap" environment. What will make the customers run away is when the time comes that they can't get the equipment fixed.

We had another FLT guy quit this week, never had a guy last more than 6 months till they leave for a job paying 30% more! NCR will never get it through their retarded minds they under pay and overwork all the FLT and NCR CE's!

Good point about "Wal-Mart" style of management. Wal-mart has a 70% employee turnover each year. That figure is quoted from Wikepedia...so I think it's accurate.

Anonymous said...

Yea good point that customers don't give a sh*t about what the CE's get paid. Why should they? Only time they will care is when the quality of the CE gets too low to do the job. Lets get realistic here. NCR is probing for that level. As long as CEs keep giving Champagne work for Beer wages, don't expect any improvements. Also, need more real comments..instead of the illiterate ranting of the past..

Let's get real here. We all know the economy is bad and NCR is going to keep taking things away. After looking at the posts for a while, it is no different from state to state. We need to make a change and stand up for our rights whether you are looking for another job or staying at NCR. Every opportunity I have to talk with other tech's I do. If someone says they don't work thru lunch or don't give time off the clock to the company, they are lying to themselves. I don't argue with them, I just explain it isn't right and we need to make some changes and which I believe is to have an advocate for us which will be the Union. I let them know the Union guy or gal isn't the enemy and they should talk to them and ask questions but most importantly, keep an open mind and look at where the information is coming from before you believe what the company says about the Union. When the Union Organizer approached me I was hesitant to talk but what he said made sense. Why should the company care about me paying dues when they have cut my pay with no input from me. I believe I have made a decision for me which is best for my future which is to support me and my co-workers and stand up against NCR with a voice at the bargaining table.

I agree, if we do nothing, you can count on NCR continuing to make things worse for us, like all companies, they are using the bad economy to their advantage. I am busier than I have ever been doing installs, but no matter what is done, its never enough for them. And one thing's for sure, they will never go back to the way things were when the economy improves, so 401K will stay lower, pay will stay lower, pensions will stay frozen, benefits will go up every year, and God konws what they will come up with next. Not to mention, that in this bad economy, they still are moving to Georgia, buying kiosk makers, and hiring senior management to positions that never existed before, Nuti and friends are like kids in a candy store on the money they took from us. I say thanks but no thanks, lets vote on a union to have a contract that we can believe in, instead of a string of lies served up by self serving executives and managers that have no place to go.
