I am reading that the company is having a stop the Union Meeting. Is the company allowed to have these meeting. Are the not infringing on the CE's civil rights? The right to assemble. The right to reprentation. If I were invited, they would need a cop to refain me!!!

Anonymous said...

Your manager can not stop you from trying to get a union in, off company time. What you do when you are off is your business and not your manager's, the AFOD or NCR.
Let them have their meeting, just dont be stupid and tell them who told you first ect... keep them in the dark! Get ready to hear how your job can be outsourced and how it will hurt the company, or how much the union will take out of your pockets... Stand Strong. Stand United! btw. My area is going to the NLRB real soon.

Anonymous said...

Stand tall. I hope all goes well..We need this union in every territory, the sooner the better. We need to hit the ground running and don't stop till every region signs. Then we can have some say in our future.

Bill Nuti, NCR Corp.'s chief executive officer, had a total compensation package for last year reported at $16.8 million, a 141 percent increase from what was reported for the previous year, according to a company report filed Tuesday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. However, much of that is related to changes in reported values of stock options, which inflated the reported amount from what would have been $9.3 million otherwise.

Nuti collected a base salary of $1 million, the same as the in 2006, but saw a 183 percent increase in his reported stock rewards because of an accounting expense incurred by the company related to the spin-off of Teradata Corp. in October. The reported value of his stock rewards increased to $4.1 million last year, up from $1.46 million in 2006. That value of Nuti's reported options rewards jumped 171 percent to $8.75 million in 2007 from $3.23 million in the previous year. Nuti's total compensation in 2006 was reported as $6.97 million.

Kelly Kramer, spokesperson for NCR (NYSE: NCR), said the large increase in reported compensation was primarily related to the spin-off of Teradata (NYSE:TDC) and the accounting rules that had to be followed in restating stock and options awards at a higher price. This modification resulted in an expense incurred by the company. There was no increase in the number of shares granted.

Kramer said without the additional expense incurred by the company for the accounting rule changes, Nuti would have seen an increase of less than $2 million in total compensation. The accounting rule changes relating to the Teradata spin-off boosted the reported value of his stock by almost $7.5 million.

Nuti's "other compensation" increased almost 52 percent to $481,554 last year from $317,208 in 2006.

Other compensation included:

$447,169 for corporate aircraft usage;
$10,494 for temporary housing;
$1,414 for meals;
$5,477 for rental or lease of cars;
$5,000 for the executive medical program; and
$12,000 for financial planning.
Nuti maintains his primary residence in New York and the SEC filing states last year, NCR provided him with company-paid lodging and meals at a historical, company-owned site while he's working in Dayton and for a car to commute to work.

His corporate aircraft costs are a combination of his personal usage of the plane and his commuting flights between his residence and NCR's headquarters.

Kramer said the increase in the corporate aircraft usage were mainly due to variable operating costs such as fuel being spread over fewer miles. He said the corporate plane flew less miles in 2007 than in 2006, but the exact number was not known.

That pretty much says it all my brothers........Union now!!!

Anonymous said...

Joseph Petrick, executive director of the Institute for Business Integrity at the Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University, said Nuti's compensation is quite a big jump, especially when the disparity between executive and employee pay is so large at companies.

"We are facing some harsh economic challenges," Petrick said. "The only justification for such high compensation for executives should be for performance and stakeholder endorsement of it."

NCR had $4.97 billion in revenue in 2007. It employs 1,300 people locally and 20,000 worldwide.

Okay Southeast it's up to us to win another revolution that started in Boston.
Instead of red coats they wear $1500 suits. Instead of taxing tea they have made it so we can't afford to buy it. Instead of fighting a King we are fighting a GREED NAZI.

Well instead of bullets fire back with those UNION CARDS that are being sent this week. Send those cards back ASAP. FIRE AWAY and end the error of the GREED Nazi’s.
America and the world are watching, let the south lead the Victory again.

Send the UNION CARDS back to the return address on the envelope. Or Bobby Hayes
PO Box 1722
Conyers, GA 30012

If you do not receive a card call Bobby Hayes at (404) 788-0235 or e-mail him at BHayes1022@aol.com. Or just call Bobby to let him know that you appreciate all he is doing for us.

Hershall said...

OK, Billy Boy. you should be ashamed for your sins of greed. Soon you will fall just like Ken Lay when he ran Enron into the ground. We are not going to let you and Cheat-le get away with this. I am not only an employee, but a stock holder as well. I am going to call for your ouster along with your aussie friend. I encourage everyone who holds NCR Stock to write to the board of directors and let them know how you feel and that if the dont fire this rat bastard that you will sell off all of your shares of NCR and buy Diebold.

The battle is on, fight the greed nazi's with your union cards. Don't let them turn the middle class into the servant class.

Anonymous said...

Make sure you talk to every CE you know, whether in your area or not. Find out if they have received a union card or not. If they havent , get their mailing info and send it in yourself, if they dont know who to contact. We need an end to this abuse of employees, an the Union is our only hope.

Anonymous said...

Good job Union Gals.
Guys send those cards in also. Do it now. Do it for your family, time goes by fast. You need to spend your life with them. Not constantly having to work because of a shit wage and an exhausting work schedule. Do it for yourselves. Have some dignity; these rich basterds think your low life scum. You’re just a pesky employee in their eyes, a necessary evil.

Send those cards in, tell them I'm an American worker. I demand to be treated with respect and paid a fair wage for my hard work.

Fight back now, trust me you will regret it years from now if you don’t. There may never be another chance.

Anonymous said...

Think about this. Why would you think Bill Nutty cares a thing about you when he outsourced our work to a country like China?
China a country who has child labor, slave labor, and those who get paid work for almost nothing. Oh yea and no way they get a chance to vote for a union. If they speak about a union they’d be shot and their family would be charged for the bullets. Why would anybody in their right mind help support a country like this?

Fight the Greed Nazi send those cards in.

Hershall said...

Today we march, tommrow we vote! My region is going to the NLRB today! Now just maybe Billy Boy and Cheadle will see the light. We are mad as hell and not going to stand for the Greed Nazi's taking away from us and our faimlies.

All that the "Card" gives the Union is the right to hold an election. Don't you like FREE NCR PIZZA PARTIES?

The "Real Value" of the Election is the statement that it makes to upper management (like Nuti & Cheat-le) that the Workers are hurting. If you want NCR o "Dump" Cheat-le, SIGN THE CARD!

Once the Election is scheduled, the "Real" Debates will begin!

Union Elections are like Colonoscopies, you should schedule one every few years!

Hey California, Wake up and send in those cards! My contact at the IBEW says we will be ready as soon as he gets the cards back in. You know who you are, come on. Stand Tall, and together we will prevail over the upper management!

Anonymous said...

C'mon you guys, cut it out. I'm aching all over from laughing so hard. You can't really be thinking you are going to change the pay structure at NCR. You will never have any say in how much the executive officers get paid. Why? Because you are the lowest of the low, and as such, you'll always be paid the lowest in the company. Not you or your union will change that. Have you asked your union friend what he is going to do for you? Voting for a union wouldn't be much different than voting for Hillary. You'll get nothing in return and have to pay for the privilege. You've missed your chance at unionizing and now you have nothing left to try to save or protect. Face it, you've lost before you've started.

Hershall said...

To The Anti-Union Nazi:
I think its you who should wake up! We are getting a union to protect what we have left, not to mention the good rep we have built for this company. And yes we are aware of how much the top dog and his puppies make at OUR expence.

Maybe when we end up like enron???? Will that be enough for you to STOP THEM? It will be to late then my brothers and sisters....VOTE THE UNION IN NOW......Executive Detail for "Keith Taylor":

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keith Taylor
NCR Corporation
Senior Vice President, Financial Solutions Division(5)

Executive Detail
If Messrs. Hurd, Gagliardi and Taylor continue in their current positions and retire at age 62, the estimated annual pensions payable to them from NCR’s pension plans would be $873,851, $203,244, and $143,703, respectively. Upon Mr. Nyberg’s resignation from the Company, under the NCR Pension Plan, the NCR Nonqualified Excess Plan and the Officer Plan (as defined and described below), he is entitled to receive an estimated annual pension payment of $342,990 when he reaches age 62. This amount could be reduced to $192,488 if he elects to begin receiving such benefits at age 55. These amounts are straight-life annuity amounts although other optional forms of payment, some with reduced pensions, are available. Certain of NCR’s nonqualified executive pension plan benefits are supported by a benefits trust, the assets of which are subject to the claims of NCR’s creditors. In addition, except for the Officer Plan (as defined below), benefits under NCR’s pension plans are not subject to reductions for Social Security benefits or other offset amounts.
Not enough....here's a little more...For instance, after ousting Carleton S. Fiorina as chief executive in 2005, Hewlett-Packard’s board turned to Mark V. Hurd, a little-known executive at NCR, to replace her.

Mr. Hurd, who had already exercised stock options at NCR in 2005 worth $14.7 million, received a $2 million signing bonus; relocation benefits worth $2.7 million; 450,000 stock option shares worth $2.4 million; and 400,000 restricted shares worth about $8.1 million, according to Equilar.
NEED I SAY MORE!!!!!!!
But Mr. Hurd’s employment agreement included an interesting twist. If NCR’s stock fell by any amount up to 20 percent within 90 days of Mr. Hurd’s leaving the company, Hewlett-Packard agreed to reimburse him for the losses he would have incurred on the 850,000 shares of NCR stock he still held. Hewlett-Packard said it paid Mr. Hurd a little more than $5 million for his losses in NCR stock.

Anonymous said...

Oh wait....here is some more info for you fence sitters....I am enjoying myself here...NCR Corp. filed Tuesday the employment agreement with its new chief executive officer, Bill Nuti, formerly of Symbol Technology Inc.

The agreement was dated July 29 and spells out his salary, bonus and stock-based compensation.

For 2005, Nuti will have a base salary of $1 million. He has a guaranteed minimum bonus of $500,000 for this year with the possibility of as much as $2 million, according to the agreement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Nuti's bonus will be based on the company's success in meeting annual performance goals and could range from no bonus up to 200 percent of his salary.

Nuti did not receive a raise in salary by joining NCR. His base salary at Symbol was $1 million, according to Symbol's proxy filed earlier this year with the SEC. Nuti received a bonus of $1.13 million for 2004, bringing his total compensation for last year to slightly more than $2.2 million

Under the terms of his employment agreement with NCR, Nuti also received 85,000 shares of NCR restricted stock, valued at roughly $2.9 million based on today's closing price of $33.99.

He did not receive an official signing bonus.

Nuti also will receive nonqualified options to buy 650,000 shares of common stock divided as follows:

250,000 will vest in 25 percent increments on each of Nuti's first four employment anniversaries with the company.
The remaining 400,000 will fully vest on Dec. 31, 2008, assuming Nuti is still employed by NCR and has met the performance goals of the preceding 12 quarters.

I cant stop myself...this is to easy....The Company has corporate aircraft
that is available to executives, as well as other employees, for business
travel. Company policy

16

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

permits the use of such aircraft on limited occasions by executives' family
members as long as there is no incremental cost to the Company. In addition, the
Committee has authorized the CEO to use the Company's aircraft for personal use
on an availability basis, provided that the imputed income related to such
personal use does not exceed $35,000 per year.
8-K filing with the SEC.

Relocation

Nuti will relocate to Dayton no later than August 1, 2006. NCR will reimburse all normal and customary relocation expenses in accordance with its standard relocation policy. Failure of Nuti and family to relocate to Dayton by August 1, 2006 constitutes material breach of Agreement and will be considered "cause" for termination by NCR. Alternatively, NCR may retain Nuti's services but the next applicable tranche of Restricted Stock that would have otherwise vested shall not vest and shall be forfeited. NCR will pay or reimburse all commuting expenses to and from Dayton on the NCR aircraft (not to exceed one round-trip per week) and will provide a $5,000 monthly allowance for living expenses in the Dayton area from the Start Date through the earlier

A Brief ReCap and Update:

NCR: We think you are making too much money. The company CAN'T afford it and remain competitive.(Aka-pay execs millions for a bonus)

Employee: But I've given so many years to this company and I've worked so hard...

NCR: Doesn't matter. Don't like it, there's the door.

Employee: Maybe I should do something about this before it gets worse.

NCR: Go ahead and try you little peon. We will hire the top Union busting firm in the US to stop you. We can use all the money the company couldn't afford to pay you, to keep you from having any rights or voice.

Employee:

( To Be Continued)

It's up to us all.
Ask yourself,If the union won't make things better for me, would NCR go out and hire the best to stop us? How much of those attorney fee's would have and should have been my raise and bonus.

Someone said, that the Teamsters have been in the NCR Northeast (New York /New Jersey Area) for twenty-five years. Those CE's, NCR/Teamster members, have done well with NCR for all those years. That speaks volumes for unions and the good they can do.

One is a lonely number.......Go Union

Don't know if im for or against a union, but I do have one question for all those pro union people, Do you shop at Walmart, and do you own a foreign auto, because if you do then shut the pie hole because "you" are the big reason that all this is comming down the pike. Clean up your own act first, and then talk to me.

I agree, we need to stop buying crap at Walmart and foreign manufactured goods also. However, greedy upper management in this and other US Companies is the reason we need a union. They make too damn much and are screwing the folks that keep the equipment running. Remember "AFTER THE SALE IT'S THE SERVICE THAT COUNTS"! They need us, screw them!

HeY Knuckle head,
What does shopping at Walmart or by foreign products have to do with this cause. If you want to work for peanuts then you go work for Walmart or move to Asia and work for a nickle an Hour. Be my guest. Oh here is something that might surprise you. Toyota, Nissan, VW, and whatever car companies that assemble cars here in the US all have Unions. Your reasoning is so off base!! When you speak out load, please state the facts. Dont use excuses just because you don't want a Union. You are not on the fence, because if you were you would not be so negagtive AND sinical!

AND THE REASON THIS IS COMING DOWN THE PIKE IS NOT BECAUSE OF THE UNION, ITS BECAUSE OF THE HAIR BRAIN IDEA THAT NCR HAD TO CUT PAYCHECK AND REBAND THE CE's.

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND UNLESS TO HAVE SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO SAY.

WalMart: is the Biggest Anti-Union company on the Planet.
NO UNION MEMBERS SHOP THERE!
Unions are fighting them (none in NYC). Please help us!

American Auto Companies: did exactly what NCR is now doing.
It is too late for them, we can still SAVE NCR!

By the way, How many SUVs do you have?

Anonymous said...

Your to stupid to even realize why your salary is getting cut, Walmart tells NCR what they will pay them, Walmart started this whole Permond?FLT thing ^ or seven years ago when they told NCR that they were paying their employees to much, and that if they wanted to do business with them that we would have to find out a way of cutting those costs, well we did, our bigest problem is that we do not have any management that has any balls to tell walmart that this is what it costs to do business and thatis what we want, we want the business so bad that we are willing to do it at a loss, from what i have heard that is a 10% loss. So if you want to shop at walmart after talking a 18k year paycut to save 2500 a year shopping then do so, when im working in a walmart and I need something, I do not buy it there, I will go across the street if necessary and shop at Target, Walmart may think that they can create their own new customers, but I will not be one of them. Walmart was the whole impitus for these drastic cuts in pay, and if you cant see the corealation, then you are blind.
As far as Toyota is concerned then only plant that is union is the NUMI plant in Cal, all there other ones are non union, VW dosent even make cars in the USA anymore and hasn't in almsot 20 yrs, and also Nissan is not union. Neither is Honda, or BMW USA. Ford, GM, and Chrysler are the only Union plants and you can see how well they have done, You are out their supporting fellow Union employees and you do own A GM ford or Chrysler auto, right!!! Well if your from So Cal then I doubt it, its possible but unlikely. NO I dont own a SUV, but when I do buy I try to buy Made in USA, I think the best way to keep jobs here is to buy American and supporting American workers, not by joining a Union, then being a hypocrite, by going and owning a import and shopping at Walmart, the biggest destroyer of Jobs in this country. Does it make sense to you now, or are you looking only at you and not the country as a whole,

Go union.

Timing on this union will be very important, the 1st quarter is almost over. A vote must be done within the next week to week and a half. We have Nuti's attention. His future is at risk. His ability to run a corporation by holding back employees will not look good. To further insult, a unionized workforce under his management term will not look good on his resume. Greed and short term decisions have made the workforce rebel.

To the know it all that states that toyota only has one plant that is union is totally false and honda has a unionized force also..And to anwser your question I own a 92 Ford f-150.. 2006 Saab 97x and a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica Touring. I buy american big time. So dont pretend to be a good judge of people because you have a problem with unions. And you also make it sound like the BIG 3's shortcomings are the unions fault. Spoken like a true union buster.

Anonymous said...

So tell me who is the union at the toyota truck plant in texas, or the union at hondas Marriesville plant in Ohio, or toyotas camry plant in SC or wherever it is, down south. Their is no union, Im not a union buster, in fact im ambivalent to a union. The point with the big 3 was that what has a union, done for them lately, they just agreed to take over their own health care, and agreed to new hires comming in at $14 per hour, those $25 to $27 dollar per hour jobs are on their way out. so the union which once helped them is now worthless, why, because the big 2.5 can make their cars somewhere else and americans dont care, or they will just buy their toyota that is assembeled in kentucky or where ever, and really dont care where its made because cheap is all they care about, I really enjoy seeing union stickers on imports, I see them all the time and laugh. such hypocracy. Im not anti union as i said just not sure that it is the solution, to me we have took in the mirror and that is where the change starts, what have I done for America, Im not looking for the govt or a union to do it for me. And when the chinese start selling their cars here americans will buy them, just like they did and do with the japanese and korean cars, and those americans will cry about where their jobs are going, and they will not realise that they are doing it to them selves.

Union or not Union is very simple as I see. If the company treats us fair then the need of a Union is not a issue. But when our pay are cut by 30%, the only way to get the fairness is we stick togather,i.e.Unionized.
Company will not listen an indivudual worker but it will listen and change its police when ALL workers speak togather.
Please forcus the issue we have here not other compnaies' or the big problems in USA in the future.

Please realize how important this is and make the right choice. I bet if most of you had the choice to work for Verizon right now you would? Verizon is Union and takes care of there employee's very well. If we did a comparison of a Verizon field tech and a NCR CE you would be shocked. We have squat in comparison. Verizon has just as much competition, if not more then NCR, so give me a break!

NCR plain and simple is screwing us and you ALL KNOW IT!

Do the right thing and stand up for yourself. Be proud and fight for what you really believe in.

2) I really dont care if you are FLT or NCR we have SLA's to keep. Just because we are pissed off at upper management does not mean we have to drag this company that we CE's have built. We are the best at what we do, and if we start acting like little kids thats the way we will be treated, and our customers will find other service companies out there to do what we do best!

3 North West.

Get those cards in asap, if you dont know who to contact its

4. From what I'm told, We need everyone to be on board by next Monday 3-24-08 or all of this may just be a lot of lost time for everyone.

Thanks and get out there and spread the word

The first time we were going to vote for a Union in Philadelphia and South Jersey it went like this. Meetings were held and promises were made by FLT. The Union vote lost and we stayed Union free. Guess what? The promises were not kept. A year or so later we voted again and went with the Teamsters. We had a three year deal. NCR next decided to move about ninety percent of us FLT Teamster Union Workers over to NCR. This effectively broke the Union and also showed how long NCR would honor a legally negotiated contract. Don't believe what you are being told by anyone from the company. They will do and say whatever it takes to stop this movement. Vote Union. It may not solve all of our problems, but it is a step in the right direction.

There is plenty going on in parts of Texas. Talk to you fellow CE's and make sure they get cards and send them in.

Anonymous said...

Get your cards and turn them in. Everyone should get educated and make the decision for themselves... We should at least be able to make the decision for ourselves. Don't let anyone including management make it for you. I personally think they are a take and take bunch of A$$e$ and need to realize it is not in the best interest of the company to hose the people that earn them the money.

I don't appreciate losing money and constantly getting the shaft while the higher powers get monster bonus and pay increases. I do no begrudge them getting something after all they have worked to get there but lets not be ridiculous here. We try and squeak by and they fly to and from New York (weekly or more). Maybe we should get an office there. Oh wait...

We did!!! Where is the sense in that? Doesn't sound like cost cutting to me, or better aligning our workforce I think is how they put it.
Sure seems like a lot of mails fly around on this new manager or VP or this or that is now in charge of something. That isn't streamlining the company to better align for a new and changing market place. While all the while they figure out ways to cut costs using our income.

I don't know if the union will be the right thing or not. I do know it can't be any worse than what we are facing right now. Maybe next year they will make us all CE1's and take all but 2 weeks of the vacation from us.

Enough is Enough. Don't wait for it to happen to us or YOU again! Get onboard and let's see if we all can make a difference.

I have been reading this blog. I see both sides. In fact I see 3 sides as being a former employee for NCR as my job was outsourced to a privetly owned company. It has been a year and 3 days since I lost my job. I got no raises for the last 8 years of employment. I am glad that you people in the states are at least trying something, in Canada there is little or no intrest in a union. It appears others who were let go due to outsourcing were 40 and up. It's not that our job positions were exterminated, the outsourced company is doing it. I was offered my same job back with the outsourcing company (AMPM Services Ltd) at approx $9 less than NCR was paying me. I didn't even get a golden handsake. Things here in Canada are about the same it sounds like compared to you all in the US. NCR is making money. I often wonder if the shareholders know at what price their investment is costing employees . And if they know, I blame them just as much as the NCR leadership for the unrespectful way they treat their employees. NCR will tell you anything, and it might even make sense, to keep a union from establishing. Don't believe a word of their propaganda. NCR management don't walk their talk. They will hire lawyers, even physcologists to try to brain wash you all just like with "common bond" to convince you a union will not help. DON'T BELIEVE THEM. My opinion is that if NCR has to hold back/cut back/ demote people to lower pay scales to make a profit, their in more trouble than you think. If they are doing this to wages, hope our pensions are safe in their hands. Unforetunately I don't trust NCR leadership. Appears decisions are no longer long term but short term. Looking back, the last 11 years of NCR were nothing but a dissappointment. The human factor isn't factored in. Good luck, and hope you succeed, do what you gotta do.

Bill Nuti, NCR's CEO, made $16.8M in total compensation in 2007, an increase of 141% over 2006 (which was $6.8M).

In 2007, NCR closed facilities in Scotland and Canada, outsourcing some manufacturing (Solectron/Flextronics in the USA) or moving it to low cost countries (Hungary, India). Moreover, the Customer Engineers had their pay and benefits slashed severely. In 2008, there is a hiring freeze in effect, as well as coop student hiring freeze. Many employees also got a zero % increase for 2008.

Also, NCR has spun off Teradata as a separate company in September, and NCR is now a smaller company with smaller revenue.

It seems that these cost cutting measures were seen by the board of directors as positive and warranted the 141% raise for Nuti.

In reality, Nuti only made $9.3M in 2007, but accounting rules have to state the value of shares from the spinoff in a way to make it look like he got $16.8M. Still, an increase from 6.9M to 9.3M is sizeable for a company that has shrunk, and closures, and ongoing cost cuts.

UNION DON'T MAKE A DIFFERANTS?
MLB ACTTING LIKE NCR, PLAYERS UNION HELPS PEOPLE GET THERE MONEY. FOR ALL CE'S THINKING UNION BAD FOR NCR THINK AGAIN.

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Boston Red Sox ended a threatened boycott Wednesday of their final spring training game in Florida, resolving a dispute over paying coaches for the season-opening trip to Japan. (NCR PAY CUTS)

The televised game against Toronto started an hour late when players voted unanimously not to play the exhibition or to board Wednesday's scheduled flight to Tokyo for the two-game series against Oakland on March 25 and 26.

Boston players insisted their coaches receive $40,000 appearances fees for the Japan trip, matching the ******deal negotiated for players by their UNION.******* After a few hours of talks among players from the Red Sox and Athletics, Major League Baseball, the clubs and the players' association, the sides said the dispute had been resolved.

"We felt we had to make a stand, and being on ESPN didn't hurt," Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell said.

Major League Baseball agreed to pay the managers, coaches and trainers on the trip $20,000 each from management's proceeds, a person familiar with the agreement said, speaking on condition of anonymity because details weren't announced. The Red Sox agreed to make up the difference to make the amount equal, and to pay some of the other team personnel making the trip, the person said.

"The players just stepped up and they did what I think was right," Boston bench coach Brad Mills said.

It had not yet between determined whether Oakland would make additional payments to its staff.

"Everyone connected with the trip will be fairly compensated," baseball spokesman Rich Levin said.

Fehr on Mike Tirico Show
Donald Fehr, the executive director of the players' UNION, talks with Mike Tirico about the Red Sox players' actions on behalf of their coaches, as well as Barry Bonds' status as umemployed. Listen

Manager Terry Francona and his players were upset after learning staff members were not going to get the $40,000 stipend. (NCR STEALING OUR BONUS) The Boston Herald reported players insisted part of their agreement to make the trip included the fee -- for them and the coaches.

"We're so united. And I don't mean just the players," Francona said in a dugout interview with ESPN during Wednesday's game. "I mean the staff, the trainers and our players showed that and that's what this was about. It wasn't about being greedy. It was about trying to be unified." (JOIN UNION)

Managers and coaches were included in the players' pool payments for baseball's two previous opening trips to Japan -- the New York Mets played the Chicago Cubs in 2000 and the Yankees played Tampa Bay in 2004. But there was no such provision this time in the agreement between MLB and the players' association.

In Phoenix, A's players watched coverage of Boston's dispute on television, called a team meeting and didn't take batting practice before their game against a Los Angeles Angels' split squad.

A's player representative Huston Street emerged from the meeting and said the exhibition game would be played and Oakland players would make the trip.

"You have to stay firm in your belief, and I believe we've done that. Results have happened. That's why we're taking the field now. We wouldn't be taking the field now if we didn't firmly believe that the right thing was going to get done," he said. "The right thing is going to get done. We're going to play in Japan, and it's going to be an incredible series that everybody has been looking forward to."

A Boston player contacted Oakland pitcher Alan Embree on Wednesday morning.

"For those guys to take that stance -- they're veterans. They feel strongly about it, and they brought it to the attention of higher-ups," Embree said. "We have to fix it one way or the other. ... Coaches deserved compensation. They're going over there, too, and every little bit counts."

Lowell said $20,000 payments for the coaches would not have been acceptable given that the players were making $40,000.

Terry Francona, seen here Wednesday with Sean Casey (left) and Jason Varitek, found himself in the middle of a dispute between the Red Sox and MLB over stipends for coaches for Boston's trip to Japan.

"We didn't think that was correct," he said. "Giving them half of that is not equal."

Daisuke Matsuzaka, who had been scheduled to pitch for Boston, left the stadium to pitch at a game against Minnesota's Triple-A affiliate. David Aardsma started in his place. Matsuzaka is scheduled to be the Opening Day starter in Tokyo next week against Oakland.

Francona spoke twice Wednesday with commissioner Bud Selig about the exhibition against the Blue Jays. Toronto won 4-3 before a crowd of 7,868.

"Mr. Selig was justifiably concerned about playing the game, which I completely understand," Francona said.

Boston's Kevin Youkilis stressed the players felt strongly about not going to Japan without a resolution. (UNION)

"The club's working on stuff and trying to get money where it needs to get," he said. "It was definitely an experience of a lifetime, and it ended in a good way."

Varitek said players thought it was necessary to take a stand on behalf of the coaches and staff.

"They're the basis of what takes care of us," he said.

Before the game, the Red Sox clubhouse was closed to reporters because of the bonus dispute.

(A CONTRACT)

"We had an agreement," Curt Schilling, one of a handful of Red Sox players who talked with Major League Baseball on ground rules for the trip, told ESPN's Claire Smith.

"Some of the promises have already been taken away, now this," Schilling said. "As far as the players are concerned, [withholding the coaches' bonuses] can't happen." (IT CAN AT NCR WITHOUT A UNION)

''When we voted to go to Japan, that was not a unanimous vote,'' third baseman Mike Lowell told The Boston Globe, "but we did what our team wanted us to do for Major League Baseball. They promised us the moon and the stars, and then when we committed, they started pulling back. It's not just the coaches, it's the staff, the trainers, a lot of people are affected by this.

"I'm so super proud of this team," Lowell said, according to The Globe. "When we put it to a vote it was unanimous. We're all in agreement that we're not going to put up with this.''

That the players would consider such action "is really appreciated, to say the least," Red Sox hitting coach Dave Magadan told ESPN. "It means as much as the money itself.

"While we're very fortunate, a lot of people don't realize what we do. It's nice to get recognition from the players."

Oakland general manager Billy Beane was happy the trip will go on and expressed desire for additional international play.

"I hope we go to Rome. I hope we go to Paris, Berlin," Beane said, wearing shorts with a logo of the English soccer team Arsenal.

THE FINAL STRAW - Early Retirement Plan (for JAPAN)

Q. Ever wonder what happened to NCR’s ERPs (Early Retirement Plans) that allowed their Senior Employees to retire with dignity?

A. According to p35 of the NCR 2007 Annual Report, they offered their Biggest ERP to Japan!

"The costs for these realignment activities primarily relate to the Company’s Financial Self Service and Customer Services segments.

In 2006, to further improve profitability in Customer Services, NCR offered an early retirement program to qualified Customer Service
engineers in the United States. As a result of participant election, the Company recorded an increase in pension expense during the
first quarter of 2006 of $9 million. In addition, the Company recorded an increase in pension expense during the second quarter of 2005
of $19 million,
which also related to an early retirement program to qualified Customer Service engineers in the United States.

Customer Services Realignment In September 2007, NCR commenced a realignment program in Japan which was primarily focused on
the Customer Services business. The realignment program includes actions designed to improve operating efficiency and to strengthen
the Company’s competitive position in Japan and has resulted in reductions in employment. As a result of this realignment program,
in the third quarter of 2007, the Company recorded $27 million for employee severance, of which $19 million was recorded as cost of
services and $8 million was recorded as selling, general and administrative expense. These amounts were recorded as discrete costs in
accordance with SFAS 112, when the severance liability was determined to be probable and reasonably estimable. In the fourth quarter
of 2007, the Company increased the reserve by $2 million primarily due to additional employees identified in the realignment program.
Related to this realignment, the Company made $22 million in severance payments during the year ended December 31, 2007."

ERP I (2005) - $9 million – America
ERP II (2006) - $19 million - America
ERP III (2007) - $27 million - Japan

Anonymous said...

ERP I and ERP II = $28 million. what's your point?

Anonymous said...

Point IS!

United States Revenue = $1,743 million - p.1 (that's 1.75 BILLION)
Japan's Revenue = $323 million - p.1

NCR is an American Company that must take care of their American CEs.
(let Japan TAX their Automobile Exports to pay for their retirement system)

America gets the Bridge (the Plank)
Japan gets the Severence (the Perk)

NCR just reduced American CE Salaries by 30% and gave it to foreign CE Severence Plan - Ouch!

HOLY COW!

No wonder that there is no money left for the ACS (America's Customer Sevices) ERP! All we got was the "Bridge" to Nowhere! Check out p.35:

I smell a Class Action Suit brewing here. Anyone eligible for Early Retirement (age 55 & over) should file a complaint with the EEOC immediately!

NCR Japan, LTD is a separate company with a different CEO, President, Vice President, etc. Also with a different set of books with different numbers. Their ERP doesn't have anything to do with ours and cannot be compared. And they are non union.

the broken parts are sent to the Hungarian plant to be repaired, but when the engineers order spare parts – these either haven’t even been repaired or have been repaired so badly that they have to send them back – and the engineer’s complaints are not even heard, they have to fill out endless reports, but these probably go to the bin. And of course, what happens is that you miss your Service Level Agreements, because you should have repaired it in say 6 hours, but having to order and reorder parts, you miss the SLA and have to pay penalties to the client. Yiiipiiiii lean management. (and I will not even go into the DHL spare part delivery story, which is another farce)

The internal company blogs/discussion pages give a very sad image of the company. People are disillusioned, don’t care any longer about their workplace and this can be seen by the monitoring “regime” which is now in place. People are being monitored even how many times they go to the rest room. I have worked in many other places, and since NCR have found more “relaxed” environments, which is a blessing, and I do indeed work much better and more efficiently.
One of the managers told me “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys” … and that’s a manager’s point of view, not mine.

"NCR Japan, LTD is a separate company" - March 20, 2008 12:03 PM

Why are they included in NCR's 2007 Annual Report? The truth is that Japan would NEVER allow NCR to Rape the Japanese People so NCR had to pay them what they were owed for decades of Loyal Customer Service. (It is called being HONORABLE)

NCR Japan doesn't need a Union, their government protects them. When Japanese Workers are Pissed Off, they all come to work with Red Bandannas on and they get RESULTS! Did the CEO of NCR Japan make $16.8 million dollars last year? I DOUBT IT! (that would be Dishonorable)

27 million from $323 million in revenue is a lot of Yen!

If NCR US gave a proportionate amount of their $1.75 Billion dollars to a US Severance package, we wouldn't be having this BLOG discussion!

392 AREA get those cards in. Good response so far. I know they were just sent out but we need to win this thing. As soon as you get them send the cards back to Bobby Hayes, at the return address on the envelope.

This is our only chance. There will not be another. Turn this dead end job back into a career. If we don’t get enough cards, it’s over we all loose and if you didn’t send your card in you lost it for all of us.

Don’t be a KISS ASS. This company, your manager, his manager and Bill Nutty cares nothing for you. You are an expense, that’s all you are and ever will be to them. Send back the cards for your family or the family you’ll have someday if don’t have the balls to do it for yourself. Also don’t be selfish and say” I’m out of here in a year anyway what do I care”. Then send the card back for your buddy who wants to stay and be a CE3 someday and base over 60k like the CE3s in unionized NY do.

Make no mistake about it corporate America is watching us and reading this Blog site. If Nutty gets away with this theft of its older employees he will be their hero. Then other companies will do the same to their people. It’s your responsibility as an American worker to show these greedy pieces of shit that we won’t tolerate them stealing our money and keeping it for themselves. Have Nutty’s evil plan go down in flames just like him on judgment day.

Tell who ever you talk to, to send the cards in ASAP.

HEY Hershall,

SLOW DOWN. NEVER piss off a Reporter. Maybe they are trying to help our cause by learning (and Reporting) the FACTS!
NCR has totally destroyed the Dayton economy througout the years (beginning with CEO Bill Anderson)and if NCR is planning
to vacate NCR WHQ, the Public has a right to KNOW!

That requires accurate sources and quotes. The Union should be eager to provide these to the Public!

Save your "BARK" for when you confront NCR! (if EVER?)

Anonymous said...

BLOG Meisters,
There are only two ways to beat NCR:

1. Financially: cost them more than they are saving by raping their loyal employees.
2. Publicity: Ask the Newspapers and Trade Publications to carry our story of Corporate Greed to their readers!

Katie. There is some concern about talking publicly without protection of the union. As you can see on this forum that NCR has been treating the help poorly to say the least. In the recent past NCR has shown alot of promise and has been out performing expectation yet they have repay their workforce by cutting pay by as much as 30 percent, Rebanded employees back to entry level status. This is just the tip of the iceberg. We plan on forming a union so the raping of this once great company will stop and save it from its ultimate destruction. I know that if you talk to NCR they would put their own spin on things and all I could say is that the proof is in the pudding. NCR will only tell you what they want you to see and know. Just speak to the nearly 2000 CE's that are trying to survive. I hope the little blurb that I have just written has convinced you to dig a little deeper and expose NCR for what they really are. And may God bless you if you can bring our voyage publicly.

yes read trough te blog
find out bill get roughly 16 mil/year

find we got around a 1% bonus while bill got 100% plus in a bonus

find out that bill gets the"exec." helth plan i.e. free
the ce's are around $300.00/per pay period.

find out that they rebanded over 500 ce's cut there pay roughly 30%

find out that some of the ce's may lose there homes because of this pay cut

Find out that bill is moving the"whq" "exec" team to the wtc site in nyc

when all that reading is done hopefully u will relize that the ce's are this company's bacbone and we are sick and tired of not having a voice when it comes to matters that affect us.

I hope you create a story and it goes national. maybe everone will findout andhep our movement to having a voice

I read this blog more than once a day to find out how much more we have grown, and I know that there are more than 5 or 6 people respomding. I just get mad as hell when someone makes the statement that only a few are here.

I mis-spoke eariler to the reporter and again I apologize for being an asshole. I am just Passionate about this movement and protective over all of those involved

Years back, Bill Clinton was asked why he did some of the bad things he did in his life. He answered sheepishly [ but honestly ! ]...."Because I COULD". NCR is screwing you over not because they are mean and rotten....but BECAUSE THEY CAN !!!! This is the truth. Keep this blog positive. As a CE you know what you do and the value you provide.
Just a suggestion but I would not label all management as bad. Remember, you will have to work with these guys as a union and the last thing you want is an us vs them relationship.
For the managers out there, the union will make your job easier. You will know what you can and can not ask the CE to perform regardless of what the upper management requests. If the agreement says the CE will perform a given task then the CE will perform the task. The union will negotiate an agreement on behalf of the CE's with guidelines for all to follow.

Keep this positive...

Good luck..

HEY, ASSHOLE FROM MANAGEMENT ABOVE, GO FUCK YOURSELF, YOU GOD DAMN ASSHOLE! I'M NO MODULE SWAPPER, I WORK ON EVERY PRODUCT ATM'S, PROOF, NETWORKING, RETAIL CRAP, OCE' PRINTERS FOR WALMART. NCR BLEW THE OCE' ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEY REQUIRED QUALITY SERVICE, NOT HOW MANY CALLS YOU CAN CLOSE IN A DAY. BEEN DOING IT SINCE 1973, WHERE WERE YOU BACK THEN IN DIAPERS?

In '73 I was wearing my 10 year pin and I didn't just "work on" everything you claim to, I maintained and repaired the equipment. You problably caused the loss of accounts from running that nasty mouth of yours. It's people like you who have put NCR where it is now. Go ahead and wallow in your own filth.

hey big mouth...why dont you tell us who you are...tough guy hiding behind your keyboard. You feel preety powerful, dont you, you sissy! Your the kind of guy who always got the shit kicked out of you in school! guess what....things have not changed ...still hiding and still gettimg your sorry ass beat to a pulp! For people like you it will never change, you will go on living your dull useless life sitting at your keyboard and typing your little nurd life away! This gives you something to do you fucking DOLT! BTW...I'm one of those guys who beat the crap out of you jerk off's! So just feel free to let me know who you are.

I noticed you are blogging under "anonymous." I reckon that means you are... how did you put it... a big mouth sorry ass who jerks off. You guys are pitiful. Sounds to me like you guys need some more charm school, you are obviously the reason the rest of us had to suffer through those things. Grow up and act like a real man.

Ok Guys, Lets keep this on the CLEAN SIDE! I dont know where its going to get you by unloading filth. The management wants us to bicker between ourselves, remember Divide and Conquer ? Well thats what they will do if you lose your cool, no one will want to be assocated with you. I dislike what Cheatle and Nutti are doing, but I'm going to let the UNION speake for me. We will get a UNION (if)
we keep our cool and stick together.

Hey Old Timer,
We don't have 20 guys working in a patch as you would call it. You had no SLA's, closed calls, and the rest of the crap we deal with. We have no time to maintain and crap parts make it almost impossible to repair. You wouldn't last a week in the conditions we are working in. I feel the pain the other CE expressed. I live it every day. By the way, has NCR reduced some of your benefits since you retired?

just remember DOLT...you are the one comming to this blogsite and and cutting down all the hard working ce's NOT ME!....What an IDIOT..."you are obviously the reason the rest of us had to suffer through those things."...tell us all about your suffering! I would bet you have never lifted a tool kit in your life! I have been a ce for over 30 years and up untill 6 or 7 years ago this was a preety damm good place to work. The ce's did not cause this..Corp Greed has brought this on and if you cant see that then you are as blind as a bat! You are not worth the time or energy to respond to anymore. As for " Grow up and act like a real man." acting is one thing...being a real man and standing up for yourself and your family is quite another!
