If you do nothing ... nothing will change

I've been with NCR many years, once a good comany to work for but now with Micro Management and Upper Management who's greedy with there heads up there ass's it sucks. I use to Love the work and the Job, now I still Love the work but Hate the job. We need a union and if you don't agree you too have your head up your ass!!!

Anonymous said...

The IBEW is not for NCR or a better relationship with it's workers. It is trying to strong arm people into joining. All the union does is the all bad that will happen if we don't join. How about tell us about the benefits. The union is giving everyone interested a bunch of lip service. I want to hear about tangiable promises, then won't get my money for dues unless they give me something other than a bunch of bad talk of a company that's when in business for over 130 years. I think the union a lemon. They didn't help the autoworkers in Michigan and now they have the highest unemployment in the nation.

anonymous, first when a group of employees join together to talk to and negotiate with a company it is called a union. You the employees are the union. Yes the IBEW is for the workers at NCR and a better relationship with NCR. No union can survive without a strong profitable company, it is in your best interest as a worker that the company is doing well so you can share in their good fortune. this is what unions do.

You said they wont get my money in dues unless they give me something other than talk. You will not pay a penny in dues until a contract is negotiated and voted on and accepted by the union members at NCR.

THIS IS WHY THIS BLOG IS A GREAT TOOL TO GET TO THE TRUTH AND LET EVERYONE MAKE AN EDUCATED CHOICE

time for a change, we gave NCR a chance, but there got greedy. GO Union, if not there will pick us off one by one

I've been with NCR for many years also. It was once a great company who cared about its people. Now it only cares about how much bonus money the top executives can stuff into their pockets. They stole our money that we worked our asses off for and gave it to themselves. Whoever thinks they won't take our money, vacation, or benefits again has their head up there ass. It's time for a union it's our only way to fight back.
When I was young, a union member told me without a union Saturday and Sunday will become a regular work day. Your hours will be whatever the company says they are at any given time. They can fire you and demote you at will. Guess he was right. If you young guys want a job with a future I suggest you vote union. Look what happened to the older guys. Older guys we have so much time, love and loss invested in this job not to give up without a fight. How many of us have given up time with our families. Birthdays, Thanksgivings, Christmas, Easter.... How many missed those precious times and will never get them back. How many have lost our health and marriages because of crazy hours and over work. Our thanks is some Godless selfish greedy executives come along and tell us we are not worth shit anymore. Your over paid. Well I say they are over paid and if cuts need to be made let them cut their own 6 and 7 figure salaries.

The meeting today in Rochester was a flop on managements part. Bob Bryne coulf not give one explanantion on why so many things are the way they are. I think he used the phrase "I don't know" a hundred times. I get a kick out of these management leaders coming to talk to us about things that they themselves have no idea. These are the guys I am supposed to believe in, the one's I am going to leave my future in! No way. Companies may not give out raises due to poor performance or for technolog advancement's, but how many actually give paycuts and restructure as much as NCR when they are makning money!! What's going to happen when they don't make money? The way NCR runs itself it's amazing they make a penny. We need a union to assist NCR to get back ontrack. If you think I am wrong then you are falling for the bull. A UNION WILL help this company and the CE's. They will work together to achieve goals. That means the UNION (THE CE'S) will work together with the company (NCR) to achieve goals. The CE's if any that decide to not vote union, I want you to ask yourself something. Is it because you are scared or scared what NCR might do? or is it because you REALLY believe that NCR does not need a union and they are doing what they are doing because they have NO OTHER CHOICE? Basically you are agreeing that it's okay to cut down the CE's instead of all the other issues and problem areas that we have where money is wasted. If you really beleive in your gut that we do not need a union by now then pal...good luck living your life in a fog. Think about it. This country was built on people united and doing what is right. Last, if the union came in and just screwed us to the wall you could always vote them out, so really....what do you have to lose?

The question I have is this,
Is this only for the Northeast Ce's?
Im in michigan and havent heard a peep about unions

Anonymous said...

this is what my wife wrote on this subject.

Inthe coming days it will go to all in management

Dear Sir or Madam:

I felt the need to write to you because, as the wife of one of your CE’s, I feel that you should know just how important you should consider these men and women who work for you. In the stores and at the ATMs and everywhere else you service, your on site employees are the representatives and the most basic source of your success.

I understand that you have your jobs in the success or failure of this company. You make hard decisions every day about where to cut costs. While you are making these decisions regarding cutting pay or benefits, please keep in mind that these are people who you are hurting, not just numbers on a spreadsheet.

My husband spent over four years working for a company before he went to yours. He put everything he had into that company. We struggled to pay the bills, he worked long hours. He made the fleet of trucks under his control the best in the nation. He helped to raise the productivity of the office. But his ideas fell on deaf ears. He along with his coworkers were increasingly expected to do more work for less pay. Eventually it was too much to bear, and my husband cut his losses and took a pay cut to go to your company.

I am not saying all this to increase my husband’s standing, as if just because he left another company for yours he deserves something. For Bob’s leap is not unlike that of many others in your employ. People who value their work and their effect more than the pay. Yes, it is important to make a decent wage, but for many of your employees, they value excellence and being part of something bigger more than the monetary incentive. And that is a very valuable employee to have.

Employees like my husband put everything that they have into the success of your company. They do this because for them, this is their company as well. When you succeed, they succeed. They live for that success. And they feel that they are an important part of their company. They feel that their contribution is something to be very proud of, and they feel that at the end of the day, everyone who played an important part in the furtherance of the company’s goals would be rewarded.

Unfortunately, it would appear that the company does not seem to value the contributions of their on site representatives. In an effort to cut costs you cut pay and treat your employees as though their unending energy and time they have put into your successes were nothing to you. In an effort to cut costs you have left many of your employees worrying whether they would be able to afford their homes anymore.

Now, I am sure this would not be as big an insult if it weren’t for the knowledge that your CEO would be receiving a million dollar bonus, at the same time the CE’s are expected to only receive 1.5% of the 5% bonus they were promised. You might not realize it, but in doing this, you are demoralizing these workers who are the bedrock of your success. Instead of everyone benefiting from the success of the company, there are those who are being penalized.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but you are being rather short-sighted in your endeavors to cut costs. You may be boosting profits in the short term, but would be hurting yourself in the long term by this tact. Demoralizing your hard working CE’s will only serve to disconnect them from your success. When an employee feels the pride in helping your company, their company, to succeed, then rewarding that drive for excellence would only serve to leave that employee with a feeling of importance and that their employers recognize the hard work and respect their efforts. This would give the employee a direct connection with the success of the company, and they would work even harder. These employees would not only be working for the bonus, but to earn that respect that they have been shown.

I know, maybe it doesn’t make sense to you, but as a parent, I am ever engaged in this type of reinforcement of the behavior I want to see in my children. The employees you have working for you, most of them anyway are not the kind who are only there for the paycheck. They want to do a good job. Rewarding that would give them a reason to keep it up. If it seems that their efforts go unnoticed, then they tend to not put in that extra effort. Do you prefer employees who are there just for the paycheck, or employees who feel they have a stake in success??

Thank you for entertaining my thoughts. As the wife of a man who has come home with a sparkle in his eye at a successful job, I urge you to consider the value of an employee who places the excellence of his work over the money in his wallet when considering where you want to cut costs. Because, in the end, the cost to your company may be more than monetary.

Sincerely,
CE’s Wife

If things don't change pretty soon they're going to stay the same.

During our recent meeting we were told that having a Union would not allow us the flexibility to rapidly change to our markets condition. I tried to understand what this statement actually means and here is my conclusion. In my opion if we had Union representation they would not be able to cut our pay at the drop of a hat. They would have to negotiate for fair compensation. I really doubt that there would be any type of delay with the Union if they were doing something that was beneficial for NCR employees.

CE WIFE, the upper mangerment doesn't care about you and the rest of us. Your letters will open your husband to pressure. Don't ask them or tell them anything. there DON'T CARE. This is a game to all of them. This is the OLD BOY'S CLUB. They move from company to company cutting and cutting to line their pocktets. We stopped making good dependable products, sold anything that wasn't nailed down, reworks parts at Mexico boarder (cheap larbor), and now with the only way to save is to cut pay. They say it is to make us competive with second rate companys, all they are doing is making us a second rate company. Why have a contact with NCR when all there quailty workers leave. Because there willn't stop till we say NO to the OLD BOYS CLUB. Union is the only way to go.

To the CE from MICHIGAN. I am in touch with a CE who is working hard in getting the union message to you folks in Michigan, Atlanta, Florida, Chicago and Oregon. The problem is, NCR is blocking a lot of Union IBEW e-mails. The Union movement started with the entire New England territory, it has turned into a national affair and we are trying hard to get the news to you folks. We need your help. Promote the blog to your fellow workers and call Steve Smith (Steve is one of our IBEW Union reps/organizer) He is a great standup guy. All conversations are held in private so you do not need to worry. I plan to get in touch with as many CE's across the country as I possible can, but we need your help. What I have done is got the names, addresses, emails and numbers of my CE's in my territory (Quicklook helps) and sent them to Steve. This enabled Steve to get the mailings out to those CE's. I believe that every CE should have the right to look hear both sides and this is the only way to get this done. So please! if you want to join the movement or just want to find out if the union is for you, please make the call and get onboard. We need you. Steve will give you all the information you need and what to do. There are MANY CE's that will guide and assist you.

God Bless

If you want to know what's going on in the Northeast, here's it is in a short easy to read words. The Union is trying to beef up their ranks so they have more bargining power in June 08 when the NYC guys are up for negoiations of a new contact. The Union is a dying entity. Unions are an organization of the past.

I spoke to a couple unions guys about how things work down in the city and guess what. When I asked what has the union done for you. the answer was NOTHING, except pocket my dues.

A union is not the solution, the union is reactionary organization that is trying to get you onboard while your pissed off about the changes. The union is like a bad drug, don't do them.

Anonymous said...

Reply to the previous statement. I couldn't disagree with you more. I have work in the New England area for many years and have seen the NY Union employees getting better pay, better work conditions, better benifits, they still have a growing pension. This sounds better than no pay raises 4 years running, frozen pension, now a pay cut. I am not pissed off I am struggling to survive. This is America and we are the people.

Yes that’s right dumb ass the more people in a union the stronger it is. Read the info showing what the union has and what we don’t have. We need to go nationwide. Wakeup! They cut our pay and raised the price of our health care.
I think I just called an NCR manager a dumb ass.

The oaks can't understand why the maples can't be happy in their shade. The problem is the oaks have grown to lofty and they suck up all the light.

Some interesting facts for new employees as well as veterans.

Seems like the guys at the top are making at least $1 million a year base pay. Lets put this into perspective. If an employee earns $35,000 a year he would need to work 28.574 years to earn $1 million. If an employee earns $46,000 a year he would have to work 21.7391 years. If you are one of the lucky employees that had a pay cut of say 20% it will take you about 10 years to be back at your current pay. But the people that are making a million a year are telling me they have to cut our pay to remain competitive. Give me a break. Just a classic example of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. This company already has a Union, it is called management and you can rest assured they are taking care of their members.

Can we have a section on this blog that contains all the previous e-mails, contracts and IBEW replies to NCR management? I see we have a Open Forum and a Q&A section - to answer questions. It would be nice to have a Information or Article section to click on were we can post things like the Nuti contract or past e-mails that went to management that some of the CE's may have missed.

Airports, banks to be hit by IT staff strike
Sandra Rossi 13/03/2006 08:55:17

NCR technicians are planning to go out on strike this week creating havoc at banks, airports and universities.

The Australian Services Union (ASU) said 150 technicians will stop work today, Monday, March 13, 2006.

The union said the strike will affect IT for major airlines such as Qantas because the technicians support ticketing and baggage-handling technology.

NCR also operates regional ATMs for the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ, credit unions, IT systems for Wollongong University, all KFC outlets, Aldi supermarkets and public schools across Australia.

ASU secretary Sally McManus said the strike was a response to repeated attempts to negotiate a pay rise that keeps track with inflation.

McManus said salaries had not kept in line with the cost of living, particularly motor vehicle costs which have jumped 18 percent in five years and petrol prices have risen 65 percent.

"They [the workers] are concerned that NCR is attempting to stonewall so they can use the Howard government's new WorkChoices laws to cut away at wages and conditions," McManus said in a statement.

"These workers do not want to inconvenience the public, but have no option to achieve pay increases."

An NCR spokesman said disruptions would be kept to a minimum.

He said fewer than 50 percent of its technicians would be involved in the planned week-long strike.

"We have a field team of less than 150, and this team is not concentrated in NSW, it's spread around the country; so 50 percent or more will not go on strike," he said adding that NCR was working to continue negotiations with the ASU

Here is the 3rd article down

Strike goes national after negotiations fail
Helen Schuller 13/03/2006 14:41:33

More than 80 percent of NCR technicians nationally have gone on strike today following failed attempts to negotiate a pay rise that keeps track with inflation.

The Australian Services Union (ASU) said 50 workers in NSW, representing 90 percent of the state's technicians, 30 in South Australia and 20 in Queensland, have stopped work. Meanwhile, staff in Victoria and Western Australia are also considering strike action for later in the week.

ASU secretary Sally McManus said companies feeling the impact represent 90 percent of the ATM market as well as Sydney Airport, Qantas, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, Westpac, Aldi supermarkets, KFC, Country Road and Apple computers.

"This industrial action has a big impact on all public schools which have Apple computers and the major universities," she said. "The strike is happening because management has no plans to negotiate and is not moving from offer of 3 percent wage increase, a reduction in some conditions including the allowance for driving their cars. [Technicians] can also be forced to change hours of work.

"They haven't had a decent pay increase in the last five years;, their wages have gone backwards against the CPI. The average wage rate is $33,000 which is bad money for the skills they have to have and they feel the only way to move large, multinational companies is this sort of industrial actions -- discussions haven't got them any further.

"If the companies don't move, the members are talking about an indefinite stoppage. If it [the company] is prepared to negotiate we are prepared to sit down at any time."

An NCR spokesman claimed fewer numbers were affected. "We have about 150 staff service engineers, of that about 50 are taking part; it is confined to NSW, Queensland and SA. NSW is going out for about a week and the others three or four days. We are surprised it is going smoothly, with no hysterical instances and it is pretty good so far."

NCR has sent new proposals to each individual worker. "They have personally been sent a letter with a fresh proposal and we are happy if they involve the union as it is their right. It is in nobody's interest to have a protracted, drawn out thing because it affects everyone," he said. "We have been negotiating in good faith since December -- unfortunately, every offer is met with a new set of claims from the union; by going directly to them we hope to get a swift resolution. We are giving them till March 27 to respond."

here is 2nd article

NCR technicians end strike
Helen Schuller 15/03/2006 14:24:56

Striking NCR technicians returned to work this morning after calling off proposed week long industrial action over pay.

Officials from the Australian Services Union have agreed to meet with NCR tomorrow for further negotiations.

ASU secretary Sally McManus said a decision was made to suspend the industrial action as a sign of good faith.

" We are prepared to enter negotiations, however if there is no resolution all states will take further action next week," she added.

On Monday the Australian Services Union (ASU) said more than 80 percent of NCR technicians in NSW, Queensland and South Australia had walked off the job. Victorian staff yesterday announced they would also stop work this Saturday if the dispute was not resolved.

"If there is a result no-one will go out," said McManus. "We were offered a 3 percent wage increase -- we want more, but we are open to how that is achieved. We understand the company's constraints coming from head office in the US and hope they can package deals that are enough to keep up with the cost of living."

The biggest impact to the strike was felt in NSW where workers are involved in the ATM market, Sydney Airport, Qantas, Commonwealth bank, ANZ, Westpac, Aldi supermarkets, KFC, Country Road and Apple computers.

and finaly the last

NCR technicians get pay increase
Computerworld Staff 07/04/2006 13:41:46

NCR has completed negotiations with the Australian Services Union (ASU), with all NCR customer engineers receiving a pay rise of 3 percent.

Last month, NCR field service engineers walked off the job in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland seeking a better pay deal.

The ASU claimed 90 of a total 150 NCR employees had taken strike action. NCR claims only 50 employees were involved.

The current Enterprise Agreement met ASU pay, allowances and rostering requirements.

NCR will lodge the agreement with the Office of the Employment Advocate (OEA) within the next 14 days. As a result of this agreement, all negotiations have been finalized.

ASU executive president Sally McManus said the NCR field service engineers now consider they have a good relationship with their employer after fighting for 15 years to get a new Enterprise Agreement.

Of the employee, "98 percent voted yes for the enterprise agreement," McManus said. " They were offered rostered days off and had their issues with car allowances and petrol sorted out. In fact the technicians got everything they wanted."

I have been around NCR for a long time.I understand that the people comming from FLT and those here only a few years years just don't understand how badly we have been treated these past 10 or so years. Only in the early 90's when ATT moved in and the union was knocking on our door, were things good. Good because the company wanted them good so we would not vote in a union. Well we didn't and it's been downhill ever since - except for the union shop in NY. Well history is repeating itself and the company, in spite of the huge pay cuts, is now dangling the big carrot in front of our faces and it has a VERY long string attached. The $5,000.00 rate increase announced from 2007 to 2008 is just a piece of that carrot. A soon to be announced availability pay increase will be the next piece. And there will be more - until the union goes away and then the hammer will drop as it always has. The raoming circus with Pardo, Burns and Fortin are there to take notes on our comments, bring them to Dayton so Dayton can come back with some more "dangling carrots" to convince us that all is well and we don't need a union. DO NOT BE FOOLED!!! AGAIN!!! There is NO garrantee of a pay increase or benefit reductions or anything else. There IS a garantee for ANYTHING that we negotiate via a union contract. We deserve at least a cost of living increase every year working for a company that continues to make a profit. Remember this - BONUSES ARE BOGUS!
NCR, want to give me a bonus? I'll take it - Along with a RAISE FIRST!
Pay structure is but one advantage to a union. Let's not forget benefits, seniority, overtime, days off, forcing of overtime and availability beyond what would be normal, work schedules and shift differential pay, job travel in a company vehicle on our time, layoffs by favrotism instead of senirority, and so much more. I could talk for hours but let's absorb this first. There is a chart floating around showing the difference between bonuses and raises. I would like to see that chart on this site for all to see.
Finally, be smart. Go with the garantee and not the promise. Go with the union. It is worth the 1% cost that will be payed back tenfold over a short time.If a contract is good enough for our CEO NUTI, it should be good enough for us. 'till next time.

QUICK FACTS !!!
Union dues are about 1.2% of your pay and contrary to what Mr. Pardo said at one of his meetings, the IBEW initiation fee is $15.00 NOT $200.00.
So, a CE making $40,000 a year or $19.20/hr would pay about $480/year in dues or $9.25 a week. That's less than a half hour a week for dues or less than one hour per pay period AND they are tax deductable. Enough said.

I have no problem with the CEO making a ton of money, But, if cutting peoples pay to make it appear as if the co. is making profit, then those at the top need not get a bonus.

This has to happen. If we back down, they will beat the crap out of us, for causing them to losing sleep. If we didn't start this, none of the little changes would have happen. The pay increase will not help anyone. It is just show. But if we make them (UNION) give us a 3% or 4% raise then it will happen.

THOSE "ANTI-UNION PEOPLE" ARE A JOKE. HERE IN THE NORTHEAST I HEAR WE ARE GETTING .17% OF 1% FOR A BONUS. IS THAT CORRECT "ANTI UNION PERSON" (NCR MANAGEMENT
PERSON)????. YOU SHIFTED THE PLAYING FIELD ALL YEAR TO GET THE NUMBERS YOU WANT TO PAY THE SMALLEST BONUS YOU HAD TO.

To anonymous on Feb 2 at 3:15,

The Elites of this company are counting on it not happening. They think to themselves these CE's of ours have no brains or balls. We've given them all kinds of shit for the last 10 years and their still here without a union. If they even get close to organizing we'll throw them an apple just like all the other times and they'll change their minds. After all they are the little people who don't deserve to prosper and enjoy life like us. We come from rich families and went to Ivy League colleges. They should be grateful that we let them work here. Why anybody can fix the junk we've been making lately. Who cares we just need our machines to work long enough to get our numbers to look right. Then we can sell this 125 year old American company off to China. Then stuff our greedy pockets with more money and golden parachutes. Oh and our employees who will all loose their jobs, houses, bank accounts. F-them.
This is what those rich greedy thieves think of us and all American workers that’s why unions got started in the first place. Our great grandfathers fought company paid thugs, corrupt police and politicians for us to have a decent wage and a 40 hour work week. Americans forgot what is was like without unions. But the elites they didn't forget. They conned us with news shows telling how corrupt unions are and there destroying companies. Well it's not unions sending all our jobs over seas. It's not unions cutting our salaries. Its not unions cutting our health care benefits. And it's not unions in bed with our enemies giving them our latest technology just because it can be made cheaper over there.
Yes Mr. anonymous it can happen. It's up to us, our great grandparents made it easy. All we have to do is unite and vote yes for a union.

Listen Fellew CE,s, I have been a member of a collective bargining unit (A Union) for 23 years now and have NEVER, I repeat NEVER had a regret paying union dues. It is the only way you could ever get me to stay employed here in NY/NJ with NCR. We has always got a good days pay for an honest days work, and still do. We have not suffered the way the rest of the country has. We continue to benefit from the Union because we have a contract in play and we have no reason to believe that things will change in the very near future. We always got a raise, even though the remaining non-union offices got nothing or a cut in pay(IE: rebanding twice) and never put up the the normal CE beatings that the rest of the non-union office suffer everyday. Not that the company nas not tried, they just never succeed. The union here has the company on its feet 24 a day 7 days a week! God bless the Union and God Bless you all! The only answer here is that the rest of the non-union offices vote the UNION in and then NCR will have no choice but to stop the carnage and start treating us like the way GREAT PEOPLE, LIKE OURSELVES SHOULD BE TREATED!!! It's all up to you now! You must do what is right for you and your families!!! Representation is the only way to go. And Rest A Sure that we, Your Brothers and Sisters here in the NY/NJ area with stand TALL right by your sides. Amen for the UNION!!!

**** EVERYTHING IS CONFIDENTIAL ****

NCR is sending a anti-union task force to all areas to convince you that a union is not good for NCR. This is a normal process a company performs in hopes to sway (scare you) your opinion. You will hear the following - layoffs, accounts will be lost, nothing will change, NCR needs to keep competitive, why pay union due's (union due's are approximately 1% of your pay which is very small. The gains in a worst case scenario will easily make up the tiny loss and some). Corporate greed is running rampant in corporate America, the rich are getting richer and the middle/lower class are getting crushed, that's why unions are standing up strong once again. Times change. There was a time when unions were needed, then a time when they were not needed as much because the employer's were big on treating employee's fair. That's when Covey was pushed and the whole Proactive thing. Well the pendulum has swung once again and it is time to fight back for what is fair and right. We all need to make a stand and there is ONLY one way - unite. NCR then can be a profitable, pride filled place of business. We can do this.

A union is a organization made up of a majority of the employees working in a facility. The basic idea is that by joining together with fellow employees to form a union, workers have a greater ability through their strength in numbers to improve conditions at the work site; they have greater bargaining power.

The primary purpose of the union is to represent workers in their employment and to negotiate a contract that improves wages, benefits and working conditions and protects workers from unfair treatment. After the contract is negotiated, it can only take effect if it is voted on and approved by the workers. There are many benefits that come with being a Union member and here are some:

Better Wages: Union workers earn 30 percent more than nonunion workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Their median weekly earnings for full-time wage and salary work were $833 in 2006, compared with $642 for their nonunion counterparts.

Better Pension: 80 percent of union workers are covered by pension plans versus 47 percent of nonunion workers.

A Voice at Work the Boss Can't Ignore: Belonging to a union gives workers contractual and other legal rights they do not enjoy without union representation. Being union gives workers a voice on the job, and their collective voices form the union that makes their voices more forceful, more influential with management than any individual voice.

Heath Care: Union workers are more likely than their nonunion counterparts to receive health care and pension benefits, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. In March 2006, 80 percent of union workers in the private sector had jobs with employer-provided health insurance, compared with only 49 percent of nonunion workers. Union workers also are more likely to have retirement and short-term disability benefits.

Job Security: A union worker cannot be fired without just cause. Most union contracts establish strict rules about job security and the conditions under which layoffs or reductions in the work force take place.

Unions used to be a big part of American business and have disappeared over the years. We have recently seen a union movement when over 70,000 grocery store union workers went on strike a couple of years ago. And, now there are talks that the teachers of the California State University system may go on strike next week. The teachers want a 25% increase in wages and only the union can help. Unions are good for America.

The eyes of the country perhaps the world are upon us.

I have just had a moment of truth of my own (Thanks Chris). I do not think we the employees realize the magnitude of the situation (or maybe we do) I know many employees that work for competitive companies such as IBM, Fujitso,EMC etc.etc. that are holding their breath in anticipation of our next move. Recently IBM employees won a court battle concerning overtime they were owed. A judge found the company at fault and ordered IBM to pay their employees what was owed to them. The response of the IBM management was a carbon copy of what NCR management has been doing to their employees for the past 12 years (Think IBM has been following NCRs exploits). They told the employees that the company would not absorb the loss. Instead they were cutting the employees pay by 15% (Sound familiar?) The time to Unionize is now!! We should also ask IBM and the other companies to join in our struggle.Once the other companies see what NCR is getting away with the rest will follow.

THE LETTER BELLOW WAS SENT TO BRYAN BERGSTEIN OF THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, WHO'S THE WRITER OF THE RECENT IBM ARTICLE ABOUT THEM LOWERING PAY TO THEIR EMPLOYEE'S. IT HAS ALSO BEEN SENT TO SEVERAL WRITERS AT THE NEW YORK TIMES.

I AM WRITING PURSUANT TO A SITUATION INVOLVING NCR CORPORATION WHICH RELATES TO YOUR IBM ARTICLE.

NCR'S FIELD SERVICE ENGINEERS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF ORGANIZING A UNION WITH THE IBEW IN RESPONSE TO A SERIES OF UNILATERAL CUTS IN PAY AND BENEFITS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. THE DECISION TO ORGANIZE WAS BROUGHT TO A HEAD IN DECEMBER WHEN THE COMPANY DECIDED TO ELIMINATE THE TOP CUSTOMER ENGINEER GRADE RESULTING IN PAY CUTS RANGING FROM 10 TO 30%.

THESE COST REDUCTIONS ARE ALLEDGEDLY IN RESPONSE TO COMPETITIVE PRESSURES. . SOME OF THE THIS PRESSURE APPARENTLY STEMS FROM WALMART EFFORTS TO REDUCE VENDOR COSTS..

FIELD ENGINEERS IN THE NY-NJ METRO AREA ARE AFFILIATED WITH THE TEAMSTERS AND HAVE BEEN ENCOURAGING AND ASSISTING THEIR FELLOW WORKERS IN THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL EFFORTS WITH THE IBEW.

THE COMPANY IS RESPONDING IN TYPICAL FASHION TO DISCOURAGE THIS EFFORT.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING THIS MATTER, WE WOULD BE PLEASED TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION INCLUDING THE ADDRESS OF A "BLOG" WHICH WAS RECENTLY SET UP BY ONE OF THE ENGINEERS.

IBM riles employees with base pay cuts

By BRIAN BERGSTEIN, Associated Press
Last updated: 11:02 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008

BOSTON -- Even as IBM Corp. reports record profits, thousands of its U.S. employees are staring at pay cuts.

It's the result of IBM's response to a lawsuit in which the company was accused of illegally withholding overtime pay from some technical employees. IBM settled the case for $65 million in 2006 and has now decided that it needs to reclassify 7,600 technical-support workers as eligible for overtime.

But their underlying salary -- the base pay they earn for their first 40 hours of work each week -- will be cut 15 percent to compensate.

IBM spokesman Fred McNeese said the move would not save the company any money, because the affected employees generally should find that overtime pay makes up for the salary cut.

However, internal documents obtained by The Associated Press indicate that many workers will lose money.

These documents, prepared for managers who have had to break the news to their underlings, say that one-third of the affected workers -- more than 2,500 people -- generally do not work enough hours to make up for the 15 percent cut in base pay. IBM is offering a one-time "transition payment" to reimburse affected workers for the losses they suffer in the first three months.

One slide presentation says managers should try to spread assignments around so that more employees work enough to pass the threshold -- 5 hours of overtime per week -- at which their new time-and-a-half pay would make up for the reduction in base salary. But the document also acknowledges that "hot skills and customer commitments may limit (the) opportunity to redistribute overtime."

IBM's McNeese would not comment on the documents' specific points. He said IBM had been paying these technical-support people at "market rates," and to grant them overtime without a corresponding reduction in base pay would make them too expensive.

One document, labeled a confidential "Q&A for customers," lists this sample question that an IBM client might ask: "What has been the reaction of employees who are being reclassified?"

The suggested response for managers: "They understand this is something we must do under current interpretations of the law and to remain competitive within our industry."

It is clear, however, that many employees are furious.

They worry that opportunities to work more than 40 hours per week -- the point at which federal law requires overtime pay for eligible workers -- will be reduced now that IBM has an incentive to trim employees' time on the clock.

One 20-year IBM veteran who usually works 50 to 52 hours a week -- enough to come out ahead now that she can get paid overtime -- expects to see her hours reduced.

"Anybody who's been in IBM knows that when they look to cut costs, that's where they're going to cut it," said the employee, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because she fears reprisals from the company. IBM riles employees with base pay cuts

Last updated: 11:02 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Even if they make enough overtime to compensate for the lower base pay, the IBM workers' now-reduced salaries will carry corresponding reductions in what they are eligible for in life insurance benefits and vacation or sick pay.
"I was so angry I could hardly speak, and it takes a lot to make me angry," the longtime employee said. "I just don't know how IBM expects us to take this and just run with it."

Most of the affected workers make less than $100,000, according to Lee Conrad, national coordinator for the Alliance at IBM, a Communications Workers of America union local that represents a small percentage of IBM employees. The group is considering pickets at IBM sites to protest.

On the surface, it would seem a surprising time for any IBM employees to find their compensation going down. The Armonk, N.Y.-based technology company earned $10.4 billion in 2007 and just raised its profit targets for 2008.

But more and more, IBM is depending on workers other than the ones hit by this change. IBM owes much of its current success to its increasing emphasis on international markets and on cheaper overseas labor. IBM's U.S. work force has remained around 125,000 in recent years, even as the company's overall head count has risen with international hires.

The decision on overtime stems from the settlement of a federal class-action lawsuit in San Francisco in which 32,000 technical workers accused IBM of illegally withholding overtime pay.

IBM had considered the employees highly skilled professionals exempt from overtime rules as defined in the Fair Labor Standards Act. The plaintiffs alleged that they were not executive decision-makers or creative types who can be ineligible for overtime.

Though that case was settled late in 2006, McNeese said IBM needed until now to determine how to comply with federal overtime laws. "We still think it's ambiguous," he said.

We pay more every year for our health benefits and get less.
We are told where and what we will eat when we go for training in Dayton. We used to get a minimum pf $35/day for meals with no receipt.
We used to have company vehicles we could signout for when training. We now have a shuttle bus.
We can no longer drive to school for training.
We used to get an employee discount of 15% on NCR stock. We now get only 5%.
We used to get employee satisfaction surveys. Haven't had a survey in many years.
NCR used to add to our pension every year. Now our pension is frozen.
We haven't had a cost of living raise in probably 10 years. Most CE's got a 1% raise every year for the last couple of years.
We have seen pay cuts 3 times in the last 5 years.
I must be forgetting something. Guys feel free to add to this list!
I think we need a voice that can speak for us and say enough is enough. Not it is what it is!!

Simple truth. We need a union in order to have unity between the company and the worker (ce). You can wish for a union until the cows come home, but if you do not help make it happen it will not happen. We all need to pass on the union information to all CE's. If that means calling them, e-mailing them or introducing this blog site to them (the blog is the best way) we must do it. Union supporters are protected by law so the company can not touch you. If we sit back and assume that someone else is doing the work the union may never happen. There is no harm in using your NCR e-mail informing people there is a blog site that is very interesting out there :) Get my drift)))))If we ALL work to inform this can be EASILY accomplished! Can't stay scared forever...I'm not and won't.

You are right. We have to keep going forward. They are hoping we just blow off some steam and everthing will clam down. If you thing you can make a deal with NCR for yourself, you are WRONG. You are selling out your coworkers, Plus you may get 1% raise, but is it worth selling out the people you work with?

Look at the first blog posted on this site. Simply states - "If you do nothing ... nothing will change" This is what it comes down to. I have selected folks in Oregon, Florida, Chicago, Maine and Washington State inwhich I have sent info and the blog site to. I try to inform a few ce's every few days. We need to all work to inform others. The New York City Union contract negotiations will be starting in April and I would like the rest of the ce's in the nation to be onboard and assist. This is the optimal time to become union. I hope we are ready by then.

And when he does, I hope you get another paycut. You Speak like A true Company Man.

How could you sit there and allow the Company treat us like they just did? If you were already in the Union, you would not have suffered this Humiliation and Insult. The company have publiclly demonstrated what and how they feel about us!!!

We need to join together in every market. And the sooner the better.

It seems to me like they're on a path to self-destruction. Perhaps there's a plan going on behind the scenes to sell the company ??/ They are taking all the focus off the customer and placing it all on making as much money as they can (for themselves) as soon as possible. It's an absolute horror show here in the Northeast. With the added work that was inherited from the FLT group, it's become unmanageable. They are taking on contracts that cannot be supported due to lack of man-power. With these lower salaries, added workload, terrible unfamily favored schedules, PEOPLE WILL NOT STAY. It's just not worth it anymore. They are losing quality technicians and will end up filling those positions with people who don't know any better, thinking they're becoming part of an Old Tradtional company that cares about their employees. Perhaps if our customers knew what was going on, the fear of not getting the proper service along with the "Strike" factor would definately shake some boots. NCR NEEDS A WAKE UP CALL. It's turning it's better workers into disgruntel ones. How can a company think they can continue to operate this way? Are they really that blind as to what's going on? I doubt it, they're smarter than that I'm sure,..but what do they really think is going to happen if we allow them to continue on the road they've chosen.

I've never been in a union before so I don't know what to expect. If NCR is anti-union so much, it has to mean it will be better for us. It just has to. The way I look at it, the only way it could get worse, is not having a voice from the CE as we do NOT have one now. I can't see a UNION making anything worse. As stated in earlier replys, who cares about dues if I'll get some of my life and self respect back?

EVERY NCR CE that I know, is currently looking for another job. What does that tell you? Vote NO on the union? HELL NO!! If anything, get them in here as soon as you can so we can start to see some change for the better before we lose all our seasoned CEs. I don't understand how they don't see it. The writing is on the wall, if they continue to close their eyes to it, shame on them not me. I will do what's best for me and my family before doing what's best for NCR.
How and when does one vote for a union? Please provide the simplest form so that I may start communicating this to my fellow employees.
Is there anything planned on making this known to the media so that our customers know what's going on? I want to see this on T.V., read it in my local newspaper, this needs more visibility aside from a blogspot that not many people will see. Could you imagine what this would do to NCR if we had a nation-wide strike? We do have POWER, we just need the leadership to show us how to use that power.

Union? YES!!!

Anonymous said...

Well said Truman.
Let’s make this happen nationwide. Get it done fast before they have a chance to sell this once great company off.
I want to sit in on contract negotiations. The first time one of those top executive basterds say they can't afford to give us pay increases and our money back. I want to say well you at upper management will have to take a 25% pay cut. After all it's for the growth of the company. Nobody's going to buy NCR machines if they can't be fixed. We now unionized Customer Engineers have agonized over this decision but someone going have to take a cut. But we are team. Now hurry up and sign so we can go down to the bar and drink. This way we can celebrate our raise and your cut in pay.

(They cut the now lets drink part out of the NCR video)

Very well put Truman

so you all know, many people have posted comments that are against the union and they are getting deleted off this blog. How disingenuous is that. I've been with NCR for several years and think it's still a great company. It's not perfect but neither is any other company out there. You guys all want to act like tough guys to beat the crap out of the company and all you're doing is getting snookered by the IBEW. If you hate NCR that bad why dont you go work somewhere else? Don't ruin the company by bringing in a bunch of sneaky liars who delete opposing views to drive thier agenda down your throat. Stand on your own 2 feet and stop acting like a bunchof idiots thinking a union is going to change the world. Please grow up or go somewhere else. Hopefully many will read this before the IBEW deletes it.

Hey IDIOT UNITE>> Why do you keep dropping your knowledge on us? It is obvious what you are doing. Just stay out!!! You seem to think that things are going to get better for you without a union. You can not be further from reality. This country has become what is today because of Corporate America taking from it's employees to line the pockets of all the guys that work on Mohagany Row. They cut our pay twice in the recent past and maybe you don't remember how they stole pensions from employees and folded it into their bottom line many years stating that it was necessary for survival. Lets not forget the take backs every year, and increases in out of pocket costs for medical. How much more can you take? I can't take much more of this. And as for removing comments from this blog, that's just not true because I keep reading your nonsense. So just do us all a favor and stay out. You are just BUZZ KILLER. Not to mention that your breath stinks!!!

YOU ARE SO WRONG. I AM IN THE UNION AND I COULD ASSURE YOU THAT YOU DID NOT HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE STATED. THE UNION DOES NOT EMPTY MY POCKETS. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I HAVE RECEIVED A RAISE EVERY YEAR FOR 23 YEARS!!! THEY ALSO FOUND OUT THAT I HAD BEEN UNDER PAID FOR THE EXPERIENCE THAT I HAD AND FOUGHT FOR ME AND I GOT A $100 DOLLAR A WEEK RAISE TO CLOSE A GAP AND IF THAT WERE TO HAPPEN IN AN NON-UNION ENVIRONMENT, I NEVER WOULD HAVE GOT THE EXTRA PAY. MY UNION IS A BLESSING AND I WILL ALWAYS FIGHT TO HAVE ONE HERE IN NEW YORK. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I AM NOT A MEMBER OF ANY UNION COMMITTEE OR DELEGATION. JUST A CARD CARRYING MEMBER. I AM NOT VERY ACTIVE IN THE UNOIN BUT I GO A MEETING EVERY ONCE AND A WHILE, BUT MY BROTHERS DON'T LOOK AT ME ANY DIFFERENTLY. THEY STILL GO TO BAT FOR ME EVERY TIME THE COMPANY FEEL LIKE SHOWING THE USUAL, KICK 'EM TO THE CURB ATTITUDE. I MUST SAY THE UNION ALWAYS WALKS AWAY SMELLING LIKE ROSES AND THE COMPANY RUNS WITH THEIR TAILS BETWEEN THEIR LEGS. i WOULD NOT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY.

How many time have you all heard those words? The famous words of the "NEW NCR MANAGEMENT TEAM". We will not be forced to leave till we want to. And maybe we will leave you a present "UNION" before we leave. This is or was our company too. We put a lot of blood, sweat, tears into this company. We took pride in the company. We worked to make deadlines on big projects that made NCR a dependable company if you needed a job done. Today we are repay by greedy management team looking to making NCR a ATM machine for stockholders. What happen to a steady growing company, with long term goals of bettering the company for it people and the community, and a good long term investment for its stockholders?

LOOKS LIKE DIABOLD GOT CAUGHT PLAYING GAMES WITH THEIR FINANCIAL RESULTS.

THIS IS GENERALLY DONE TO "HYPE" THE STOCK PRICE.

GOOD FOR CORPORATE EXECUTIVES LUCKY ENOUGH TO HOLD STOCK OPTIONS.

NOT SO GOOD FOR STOCKHOLDERS WHO MADE DECISIONS BASED ON "PHONY NUMBERS" PASSED OUT AS "OFFICIAL FINANCIAL REPORTS".

WORSE YET FOR POOR 800 FOLKS BEING DUMPED IN AN EFFORT TO SHORE UP STOCK PRICE

THIS NOW BEING HERALDED AS "COST REDUCTION" EFFORT MAKING THE WHOLE "SCREW UP" IF NOT "DOWNRIGHT DISHONESTY" LOOK LIKE A "SOUND MANAGEMENT DECISION".

SOUND FAMILIAR?

THIS IS ALL PART OF THE "BEAT THE UNION PROGRAM" YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ABOUT.

THIS TACTIC FALLS UNDER THE "SCARE THE WORKER CATEGORY". .

ALL QUITE LEGAL. .

IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE RESTATED (REVISED) FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR 2006 & 2007 UNDOUBTED REFLECT THE FINANCIAL REPORTING REQUIREMENTS PUT IN PLACE AFTER THE ENRON "FIASCO". (AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TOP ENRON PEOPLE ---- "JAIL TIME")..

2- It is 5% across the whole company (not just techs)

3- The biggest point (quote directly from the articule) " IN WESTERN EUROPE, WHERE COUNTRY LAW REQUIRES, DIEBOLD WILL BEGIN CONSULTATIONS WITH LOCAL EMPLOYEE REPRESENTATIVES CONCERNING THE CONTEMPLATED REORGANIZATION".

The following are not my words, however I could not have said it better. From a member of Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners - "Are unions special interests? Yes. They represent all the workers and their families and that is a special interest.
The American Dream was to work to pay our bills, have health insurance, a pension and savings for the future when you can retire. For some reason that is not acceptable anymore.
I work hard every hour for those things so my family is safe and healthy. These costs are all based on the prevailing wage, which is based on the demographics of where you live and work. This is so you can afford a place to live, pay your utilities, be able to travel to work and home, and feed your family.
This is what the union does for us; It bargains in good faith. It also sets up training to raise our abilities throughout your entire career!
We have a responsibility to our members, our companies and the communities we work for. It takes all three to work together well to be successful in any industry and community.
Because workers and companies work under collective bargaining contracts, it stabilizes wage figures during that contract and sets up a guage for long-term wage estimates. This ability to pull from a stable, trained worker pool that is not worrying about their ability to care for their family, will always be more productive. This and workers mobility for the company stabilizes labor costs.
Labor is the only cost that remains a constant. Materials, health costs, fuel and insurance are all costs that are constantly changing due to weather, world events, and availability, to name a few.
The way unions work to stabilize the industry is that they raise nonunion wages and standards. Where there is a strong union presence in an area, wages are strong. Right to Work states have low wages.
It is honorable to put food on employees' tables; however, it is not enough. Families need health insurance and something for tomorrow. Is it not worthy of the people who work for you to be able to feed their family? These very same workers who make sure that your family has health care?
We pay for our health care every hour. There are companies that do not offer health care to their workers. They go for health care out of the uninsured pool that we all pay into. My hourly health care not only pays for my insurance, but also helps cover the uninsured pool.
Yes, this special interest helps raise the standard for all workers and their families.
Union members have a strong political voice. People vote for their politicians to help serve in the creation of better lives for all of us. If you are a union member, your vote is manipulative in the political field. Most workers share the same concerns, so why would we not want politicians who share our same concerns? This is why the system was created the way it is. One person casts one vote and collectively we elect our representation under the Constitution. This is a very special interest.
This is what unions work for every day - so that we all survive the day. There are so many positives about working in a union. We are all in this together."

Let us join and become united - SKEETER!

Just wanted all of you to know the wonderfull message has reached the West Coast at 9:56 P.M. PST on 2/8/08. It's about time somebody had the balls to stand up to these tyrants. What blows me away was I received this message over the company cell phone. Hats off to you Steve and any all of you supporters for having the guts. I will call myself Cloneman for now as I am in fear as i'm sure many other are as well. I will call you personally sometime next week to reveal my true identity, I would like to help push the UNION in my area.

So this corporate asshole named Chris Cheadle came here to the United States from Australia where he was dealing with Union Workers and lost. Now he thinks he can conquer us! Kind of like another asshole named John Lapadula who folks with a few years seniority will remember came from the New York Metro area, which was union and became New England's Regional Director back in the mid 90's. Shortly after John took over everyone in New England was "ARM TWISTED" to purchase there own PC's with there own money so John could have the first region in the country where everyone was Online and getting EMail. What a scumbag!!

It's time for the NEW NCR... One where we the Field Ce's, the one's that get it done no matter what idiotic contract those morons sign, had a voice in our future.
Mr Cheadle, in your web cast you said that you attended your first meeting and heard the words "the field will get it done" and according to you the field got it done. How did you repay their dedication and commitment to NCR and the job? By cutting the pay of the people that GOT IT and continue to GET IT DONE in spite of management's blunder with parts, overtime and contracts that you know you don't have the manpower to deliver on. NCR is now in a precarious position with Chase Bank and other customers, so what do you do? You, through our territory managers come to us, The Field, to once again "GET IT DONE" for you. For what Mr Cheadle? so that you or some future manager can once again cut our pay in the name of profitability? Why don't you, Mr Nuti, Miss Wallace and others take a cut in pay and bonus incentives????? What a novel idea huh?? lmao...

I hear that you went out in the field with CEs. I wonder how many days did you spent on AVALABILITY? How many nights were you woken up at one, two, or three in the morning to answer a call at Wal-Mart or run a Cisco call?

You say that you wanted to make it easier on the CEs affected the hardest(we are all affected by this type of decisions, some now, but all of us in the future), I think that you are gambling on the fact that the CEs affected are at a stage in their life where it would be difficult to find other employment, and so most will swallow the bitter pill of a cutback in pay and stay. You are also counting on these CEs to train the younger workers being hired at next to poverty wage levels. As far as layoffs.. you will not lay anyone off, NCR could not afford to layoff hundreds of CEs.. Who would give your "SUPERIOR" service to the likes of Chase Bank? You? Chris Wallace? Bill Nuti? I think not.. None of you could make it in the field.

CE's.. The history of NCR in the past 10 to 15 years is clear. make your choice.. I for one will vote for the union of NCR CUSTOMER ENGINEERS... You and prior management of NCR has proven that you can not be trusted with our future.

When and where do we vote??

My husaband was way to kind to NCR. This company is abusive not only to the CE's but also to the spouses. How dare NCR wake me up in the middle of the night for an F N paper jam on a ATM machine or a CRT out in a Drive Thru at Jack in the Box so the drunks can get their tacos at 2:oo in the morning. Don't they know I work as well and I need my sleep. I know what.... how about NCR pay me for my over time.... how about that. It's all about NCR and the CEO's making their profit and their make believe numbers for their customers. They make up these make believe numbers because they are under staffed and the CE's are over worked. Hey all you CEO's..... does your spouse lose their sleep like I do and sometimes your children. While you CEO's and your high maintenance wifes are enjoying your spoiled rotten children the CE's are missing out on theirs. It breaks my heart when my children cry for their daddy they miss him so. This company does not care about the CE's family, only their own as they line their bank accounts. I'm for the union. I'm in the union at my job which I have been for 23 years and I love it. Stop this abusive working enviroment. The CE's and their families can't take much more. How many divorces has this NCR company caused? I bet a few. How many heart attacks has it caused? I bet several wrinkles and gray hair came along with it. I told my husband to log all the abuse, and the times that he was working 10-18 hour days because I was going to make him hire a lawyer. I had told him that this was a against the law. So he talked to his co-workers and he asked them to do the same and they would go in together and hire a lawyer and file a law suit against this company, but his co-workers were in fear of their jobs. Thank you steve for being a true, blue man.

I agree that its time, really past time for us to take a stand. I for one am really tired of being bent over and screwed at the companys whim. Nonexistent raises, frozen pensions, 40 hour overtime weeks, impossible to obtain bonus parameters, pay cuts, GPS units in vans that are no more than a firing tool and well, the list could go on. The company has continued to whittle on us a little at a time hoping we wouldnt notice and/or be to apathetic to do anything about it so they could continue to report earnings increases each quarter through cost cutting instead of real solid GROWTH. Ncr used to care about its employees and especially its CE's and was once a great place to work, but now I would nominate it as one of the worse places to work in America.

Where do I sign.....

Well said cloneman's wife. I can say, that my wife feels the same as you.

There was a time at another job, that about 1 month after I started, we went to vote. I said no, and during the years after, realized that the choice I made was wrong. I watched as we payed more, and more for health insurance, no raises, and the companies thumb was on our head.
I WON'T make that mistake again! At the end of that job, I was actually borrowing money to get thru each week, after stopping my contributions to my 401k, cutting back on my heath insurance plan so only my son had health care. Please THINK about the union, and say YES!! WE NEED THIS!!

at one time not to long ago i was part of a union (teamsters)and for what it is worth they did allot of great things for the workers such as pay, medical, vacation and so on, this can be a good thing for all of us, we do need to get some protection from the upper exec. if we don't push back this is just the begining of things to come.

I have been saying this was coming for a few years now. I had been in a union when I was a kid, I felt they did nothing for me, so I didn't see much use for them. Now that I see our upper management getting 50,000 to 80,000 a year raises when we are getting pay cuts I feel the time has come. I too have many years with the company (over half my life) and I am one of the many who has sacrificed seeing the birth of my first born, only to be rewarded with another 6 month stay in Dayton 2 months later. 7 years later I was given a divorce for all my hard work and effort. Now NCR has blessed me with 2 pay cuts in 3 years, a frozen pension, more availabilty to spend more time with my customers then I do with my family. Chris said "We Get It Done" I would like to thank him for all the rewards he has given me, and all the other very hard decisions they have agonized over to cut more from us! Instead of cutting the most experienced CE's pay up to 25%, why not make it 5% across the board. I'm sure with small salaries they make, it would be hard. It would make us more competitive, keep that in mind! Wonder if they will visit this site?

I am a CE2 and have been so since being hired. I looked for a job for a long time and was very happy to land the job I have from what I had seem otherplaces. I still feel that way and think NCR is a good company. My manager is a descent guy and has always been fair to me. I had a few other jobs before coming to NCR and can tell you this place is ok. In fact it's much better than ok. I'm concerned that many of you who have worked at NCR for so many years, don't realize what this company is like compared to many others. It's not your fault but just that you know nothing else. You seem to want the "old days" to come back but that's not going to happen here or anywhere else. If you think otherwise you're kidding yoursleves. Some of the stuff I read above is laughable. I will also tell you that most of the guys I work with feel the same as I but many are afraid to speak up with all this union strong talk. I don't like working in this environment and want you all to know there are many CE's who feel the same way despite the propoganda to make people believe otherwise.

Wife of a CE...I have read the enitre blog. To join or not to join is everyones question. I have been a union member for 20 years and the benifits are great. Each union is different though. The strength of a union is measured by the strength of its members. A great place to begin, for the nonunion CEs, is to read NY/NJ existing contract. Also, if the CEs of NY/NJ are willing to participate in a question session from non union CEs you might eliminate some concerns.
The 60 to 80 hour work week has to stop. It is very unheathly and it is very much a safety issue. It is to the point I believe the state labor board needs to get involved. Working 12 days straight with maybe 1/2 of a day off is wrong. Planning vacations has become almost unthinkable according to NCR. Families plan their vacation sometimes a year in advance and the Friday before your vacation, your managers ask you to cancel because the managers can't or won't manage properly. Also, due to lack of employees in this area no one gets a vacation that consist of Sunday though Sunday. It is Monday though Sunday only unless you find someone to trade a weekend with.
I believe NCR's new philosohpy is to work the CEs into disability or to death and replace them with cheaper labor. Vote Yes for the Union. It sure couldnt hurt matters. Maybe you will even get benefits when you retire if you make it to retirement. Hey CEOs of NCR (if you are ease dropping) if you would each take a 1% to 2% cut in pay, bonus and or perks you would really increase NCRs bottom line. Stop taking from the people that make NCR successful.

I am from the Midwest, until today I had not heard of this movement when I was text with this BLOG site and a couple of phone numbers to my company cell phone. I've been in computer field service since 1981 and had not felt a need to unionize, until joining NCR in 2004. Since the announcement in December of 2007, my first thought is when will they start laying people off. Upper management did not suggest they take a pay cut. Nope, cut the pay of the folks who implement the lofty ideas of management. What is up with that kind of thinking?

I like the work. I don't like the stupid games. With NCR, it is put out the fires that upper management creates, for what appears to be their amusement. I too wonder how this company is profitable with so many stupid things they do.

Unionizing is not my first choice, but when management is not listening to the workers, unionizing might get their attention. If for some reason NCR could not fulfill their obligations to say Wal-Mart or Bank of America, management would certainly take notice. I would hate to see a mass walk out, but then again the squeaky wheel sorta gets noticed. Management is not going to fulfill the matrix they created.

to the new CE2 I have been hear for just under 2 yrs. Yes my TM is OK also. Yes my beef is not with him. It is with upper management and there greed. I will say how much i slave for each week $548.00 that is it and pay almost $300 a pay period for medical for my family. O, by the way i am a ce 1 i am fastlane, ceina and cisco trained, first line atm and would not have a problem doing 2nd line atm. O wait i have done 2nd line i replaced presenters and done several meetsand other stuff way otta my league. because i am a person if my Tm asks me, i will do it. He asks me because i do my job and do it well. However i do get upset wen he tells me i can not have a $1.00 raise for all the extra work i do. Y can't he because i higher ups.

I HAVE SIGNED MY CARD BECAUSE I WANTA VOICE FOR MY FAMLY AND MY FUTURE HERE AT NCR.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT SOME OF THE ARTICLES I HAVE POSTED FROM AUSTRALIA. ALL THEY WANTED IS A 3% RAISE. ALL I WANT IS A 2% RAISE BUT FOR THE COMPANY TO PAY A LITTLE MORE OF MY HEALTHCARE.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN CHEADLE WAS HIRED??

I heard a CE in Seattle was going to quit and he got a pay raise to stay. Went from 15 and hour to 46,000 a year. So now he is making more than you or me, and we wont ever be able to get to the top of the new pay scale. We are going to be stuck at 41,000 a year for a long time. Can anyone confirm the story about this guy or is it just a rumor?

I want to thank the person who texted the union info to my NCR cell phone today. Myself along with some of the other CE's in the Minneapolis region have wondered if there was any Union activity taking place in the US. Your message has given us the answer. In fact one of my coworkers has already been in contact with Steve, and from what I understand got a lot of good information. My main reason for posting tonight is to let everyone on this blog know that todays action by one brave person has finally gotten the message out to the CE's outside the North East. Hopefully this information will now spread by word of mouth from CE to CE until everyone in the country has Steve's phone number. I think he's going to be a very busy man.

I think it's time that we (the CEs) have a voice in our future at NCR. Management at NCR has shown time and again the they do not care one iota about our future. Nancy Daniels and now Chris Cheadle pay lip service, nothing more, when they say our "quality of life" is important to them. They care only about themselves and how they can maximize profits (for themselves if you see what their bonuses are, if they make the numbers at our expense). What kind of decency can these people have when they cut pay, call it re-banding or anything else they like, it's still a cut in pay, then they announce higher than expected earning and profits?
FELLOW CEs.. If you do not stand up for yours and your family's future now you better not utter a peep when they stick it to you again in the near future, and you better believe that they will. Just look at the past 10 years.

JOIN THE UNION>> Send a message to Nuti, Wallace, Cheadle and all the other managers that we will not let them SCREW us again.

WELCOME NCR TECH'S WHO GOT THE TEXT MESSAGE. YOU WILL SEE COMPANY PLANTS, NEW CE FROM FLT WHO SAY THE UNION IS A BAD IDEA. THEY CAN DROP DEAD. THIS MOVEMENT WILL ROLL OVER THOSE PEOPLE. IT IS DO OR DIE FOR THE REST OF US. IF WE FAIL, THEN NCR CAN RUN ALL THERE CALLS WITH UNTRAINED AND MANAGEMENT PEOPLE.

Hello from North Carolina...we absolutly need the Union. I have been with NCR for 18 years....raised a kid as a single parent, I can remember times when I had to put him in the back of the van while he was sleeping cause I had to run a call at 2 oclock in the morning and there was no way I was leaving him home alone. Yes I know it was against company policy but family comes first, besides sometimes you just dont have any choices. I have made many sacrifices for this company,as well as many of you have..I have worked way to many hours because we are always understaffed and the work load keeps increasing, lost so much precious time to be able to spend with family, havent seen a pay raise since 2001. Yes the money was good and yes...I did just take a 10k pay cut. Why did I stay all these years? Because NCR was smart...they kept taking a little at a time..it would piss you off but it was bearable. UNTIL NOW...I just got my hand on Bill Nuti's contract and if you think you are mad now...wait till you see it. I understand it will be posted on this blog very soon.
For you new guys out there that dont understand what all this flack is about...its about me busting my butt for this company for years, taking a 10,000.00 pay cut and Mr. Nuti made a 2.5 million dollar BONUS last year cause he made his numbers on top of his 1+ million dollar salary. Pure GREED by our upper management.

I will vote the UNION in not only for myself but for you new guys coming on board so that you will never have to work under the conditions we have, so you can spend time with you children and family and not wake up one day and wonder where the time went. I will vote UNION so you have decent and affordable medical and dental, I will vote UNION so you no longer have to work 16 hour days or go weeks without a day off. I can keep going on and on but you get the picture.
Someone asked a question earlier about the CE in Seattle. Yes it is true. He has been with NCR 1.5 years...he put in his resignation and they gave him a 10.00 an hour pay raise to 24.00 hr. I have been in the business 25 years and now he makes more than me. But guess what...he turned it down. Now that tells the story in itself. He is leaving NCR for greener pasture.
To the person that left the text msg last nite..GOD BLESS YOU.
DO IT AGAIN....
To all the NCR management looking at this site...yes we know your there...YOU BROUGHT THIS ON...YOU SCREWED WITH US LONG ENOUGH AND WE ARE NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE. Have a nice day!!

I'm glad we the NorthEast Ce's have finally got the message to you CE's across the nation! We have been fighting hard to get this to you but NCR has been blocking all our resources in informing you all. We still have quite a few states to inform so any help is appreciated. I'm so glad a fellow CE called me Friday night asking if a phone text message would work! and it did! Many thanks to his idea and work! We are on the verge of having this happen and need your help. We don't just want he NorthEast to become union, we want all the CE's with us. Power in numbers. I appreciate all the responses and please contact Steve Smith so he can get you the info you need and the mailings out to you. Don't worry....everything is done in confidentiality.

I just want to add one more thing. The remarks yankee left to southern boy......come on yankee? we are all together on this...a brotherhood. Southern boy wants the union as much as all of us so we need to keep on the straight and narrow. We are all CE's working together fighting for the SAME goal. Save that shit for the bad-guys!

The man that wrote anounymous on feb.9 at 2:47 p.m which, he thinks this job is great and most CE's don't know whats out there when it comes to other jobs. Also you stated, that what you had read above was laughable. You must be a CEO or you must be brain dead to say you and your co-workers think this is a great job. I think we all should ship you to Iraq you are an idiot. Your head is in the sand or you must be intoxicated. You abviously, don't work hard like a high percent of these CE's up above. This is not laughable.... and not a joke..... Families are hurting, so make yourself useful, why don't you go fix a paper jam at a ATM machine.

I see all this crying about pay cuts and how unfair it is. Yet where were all of you when the first CE's got their pay cut THREE YEARS ago. We didn't get bridge payments, we lost ALL of our money in FOUR months!!!
So suck it up!!
Obviously we are on a three year cycle, so in three years, we will all be working for FLT at CE1 prices.

Anonymous said...

To 'anonymous said' above: Where were we? Where were you!! Didn't have the guts to speak or do for yourself? So now you blame us? I will tell you that people in the northeast have been trying to contact different unions for the last several years long before your cut in pay. Unfortunately no one would call us back or take us seriously; until we contacted the IBEW and Steve got involved. Better late than never. This affects ALL, even the CE1 and 2's (like you) who came from FLT looking at better vacation, raises, and benefits. But that will all change in the future as it always has. So NOW is the time to protect everyone's future. Now is the time to vote UNION. I would bet that you are the one who got 40 weeks severance pay and took a year off. I would bet you are the one who came back under your terms and worked no availability. I would bet you are the one who will retire soon and leave the rest of the CE1's believing a union is not good for them, NOT because that is so, but because YOU are pissed off that no one protected you from a pay cut. Grow up. You should have done something about it instead of rolling over. Well, WE ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW!!! With or without you.

A little humor: I was again reading Cheadle's email and had to laugh when he said that a benefit we CE's got was the free NCR logo shirts. Is he kidding? The only reason we got free shirts was because NCR was too cheap to pay for TV or newspaper advertisement. He's using US to advertise the NCR brand logo FOR FREE. Every WalMArt, every Home Depot we walk into; 100's of their customers are seeing the NCR logo or Cheadle's advertisement - and we're doing it for free. We should replace the NCR logo with one of the IBEW. Will he let us wear the shirts then? I think not. I wore my shirt for the 1st time the morning I listened to his broadcast. I was sooooo pissed, I took off my shirt and put all of them in the trash. However, I did have second thoughts. I took them out of the trash and put them in a GoodWill bag instead. Now there are several HOMELESS people advertising for Mr. Cheadle instead. And, they can thank a CE for giving them "the shirt off his back".

In todays working climate we need to organize in order to better secure our futures . We hasve to stop the blood letting the only way I know of doing these is by unionizing . We can't wait on the Teamsters local 111 to renegotitate there contract in June we have to get ours done asap . If you think the benifits of a union is full of crap read the artical below .From the New York Times. Hopeful Year for Unions

By virtually every indicator, 2007 was a dismal year for American workers.
Job growth slowed, unemployment jumped and wages lost what little ground
they had gained against inflation since 2003. There is one sliver of good
news: the percentage of American workers who belong to a union rose for the
first time in three decades.

The Labor Department reported that the number of workers belonging to a
union grew by 311,000 to 15.7 million. That means union members increased
from 12 percent of the American work force in 2006 to 12.1 percent last
year. In the private sector, unions' share of workers inched ahead from 7.4
percent to 7.46 percent. While the rebound is tiny, and might yet prove to
be a statistical mirage, it is the first recorded increase in organized
labor's ranks since the 1970s, when almost one in four workers belonged to a
union.

There is little doubt that American workers need unions. Wages today are
almost 10 percent lower than they were in 1973, after accounting for
inflation. The share of national income devoted to workers' wages and
benefits is at its lowest since the late-1960s, while the share going to
profits has surged. The decline in unionization has been a big part of the
reason that workers have lost so much ground.

The future of organized labor is not cause for great optimism. Employers
have become more aggressive about keeping unions out. Competitive pressures
from globalization, deregulation and technological change have resulted in
the loss of many union jobs.

Indeed, unionization rose last year partly because of the slow pace of job
creation in nonunionized sectors of the labor market. The jump in
unionization rates in the construction industry, for example, was partly
attributed to the steep decline in residential construction, where there are
fewer unions, while the more heavily unionized commercial construction
sector remained strong.

Still, the uptick offers hope that the renewed emphasis on organizing
workers by some of the nation's largest unions - like the service employees'
union, the Teamsters and others that split off from the A.F.L.-C.I.O. to
form the Change to Win coalition - might start paying dividends despite the
difficult odds.

A bill that would have made it easier for unions to organize workers died in
the Senate last June. Congress should take up this issue again to stop
companies from using threats and other aggressive tactics to keep organized
labor out, and to help win workers their rightful share of the economic pie.

Hey:

Great job on the cell phone message!!!

I would have never nown about this site. I am happy th have found a place un-sensored that is sharing my pain.

I,ve heard that NCR would discontinue WCS as aposed to letting a union take over. Is this true?

Anonymous said...

COMPANY POLICY STATES IF U WORK IE MEETINGS U SHOULD BE PAID FOR IT.

BUT WHO ARE WE TO TRY AND ENFORCE SUCH A POLICY WE HAVE NO VOICE AND BETTER YET WE ARE JUST ONE PERSON.

aLTERNITIVELY IF A UNION WAS HERE WE WOULD HAV A CONTRACT HAT WOULD BE DRAFTED BY YOUR FELLOW CE'S THAT WE WOULD VOTE ON.

HOW WOULD NCR EXPLAIN TO ALL OF ITS CUSTOMERS THEY HAVE NO PEOPLE TO WORK FOR THEM.
I THINK THAT WOULD BE A BREACH OF CONTRACT AND NCR WOULD BE SUED

Anonymous said...

Comment about NCR discontinuing WCS is a Scare Tactic, allot of crap.

Anonymous said...

To "stressed and tired", thanks for a job well done! And to the question of "why wait for the NY contract?", because NCR is trying to break the NY union. If we all negotiate at the same time, we have greater numbers. Do you think they (NCR) created the RTSS position for the good of us? Think again. They created that position so they could have 100 or so trained CE's to ship to NY for strike breakers. NCR must think we're all stupid. Now they'll have to spread those 100 or so RTSS people all over the country!!! GOOD LUCK. Let's organize.Be patient. Together we will get it done!

I would like to thank Steve for the text message he sent. I am from Indiana and happy to see comments from tech's in Chicago and Michigan. I have in the past been a member of the Teamster's and the UAW. I never believed NCR needed a union presence until I seen friends of mine in Chicago having to leave their trade for a lower tier workforce.
Union's are not perfect nor are corporations. If we are successful I don't believe WCS will be sold off, the numbers are too good. New CE's in our area are leaving the company after a few years due to the hiring promises being withheld, poor training and over expectations from mgmt.
Speaking to Steve, this is the area we need to educate. Those who have been with the company for many years don't require any motivation. Believe me when I say the company will be directing their focus at this group.
To keep my message short, thanks again for the message, finally!!!
I chose my nickname from my work history, too many hats with very little training.

yes we should all join the union it will make our jobs better and we can all stand by the writers for whats right

I've been with Ncr as CE for more than 20 years having said that . I was never in favor of unionizing but thats a big BUT we the workings really do not have a chioce . We used to get merrit raises with a good working environment with is no longer the case . Management use to treat us as a valuable asset now we are considered a liability . I for one an getting tired of them expecting us to do more & more & more.....work for less benifits & respect ..........They made a union believer out of me . Particularly getting tired of being on av every two weeks . Remember this buzz word or slogan from management we are concerned about your quality of life and want or want to improve your quaility of life .........hey I still waiting only getting worst . IT IS A NO BRAINER THE ONLY CHIOCE WE HAVE IS TO UNIONIZE .......lets get it done now before its to late .

Anonymous said...

You guys and gals have raised my hopes. Good to see CE'S from around the country login on. We can make a different if we stick together.

I have been with NCR for over 20 years. I really never thought I would get a pay cut. Boy, I was wrong! I was devasitated emotionaly. Over 25% cut! With the cost of living going up every year, how do they expect us to live? Im thinking they just want temp people, I am not sure. All I know it is pure "GREED". It is sinful, and they will get theirs when they pass.

As I look past on my life, I wonder where I went wrong. I feel like a failure. What did I do to deserve this? I awake at night with thoughts of choices I have made through out my life. All, I know now is that we need a "UNION"!

We have no other choice. Vacation is the next they will take from us.

I am praying every day for this!

hey anonymous,
when I worked for this fine company for just three years, we had a guy retiring talk to the whole group at a luncheon held in his honor, I'm going way back.
The one thing he said that I never forgot was that thru all of the years working for NCR, that he NEVER took a pay cut and never missed a payday. Now over 25 years later, this is a different company.
I took the paycut 3years ago and always said that if the company was giving paycuts, everyone should share the burden. I never wished the other CE's would get a cut, but I had a feeling it was coming, and now It did, don't be down on yourself, or wonder "why me?"
It's not your fault. Wonder instead of the chaos that would ensue if the entire country stopped fixing ATM's, for just one day. I'm thinking that's leverage.

GOOD LUCK GUYS, I SUPPORT YOU 100%, IM IN NYC AND IVE BEEN UNION FOR OVER 6YRS. IF I WAS NOT UNION, I WOULD FIND ANOTHER JOB. YOU CANNOT TRUST CORPORATE AMERICA! UNION = JOB SECURITY.

I'm proud of all you CE's. We are so happy we finally got the message to you ce's outside the NorthEast. We have been trying for 5 weeks! We are going to make this company great again. I myself work in New York and look forward to a entire nation of brotherhood. I will work hard for NCR and do all I can to make this company successful once unionized. In the long run I think NCR corporate will come to love the IBEW union CE's. God bless all of you and keep the word moving. We plan on contacting the NLRB soon to announce our presence. Get the cards in quickly so this will enable us to prove to the NLRB that we insist on having a union vote! If you need cards just call Steve Smith. You will find plenty of info on contacting Steve throughout this blog!

Anonymous said...

**********Can you put a union card icon on the site and address to mail if anyone what's to get into this movement?************

I think this point we need another part of this blog.

we should start to ask ourselves what we would want in a colective bargaining agreement with the company. I belivewe are at this point and we should start to think about it. Honest and thought driven ideas, and well thuought out ideas not a load of b/s that we know we can't get. Remember this is a proces that may take some time as much as we want it now, it will be a process i could possiblly seeing a vote within a few weeks to a few months. it all depends how fast wecan spread the word.

North Carolina here....I am feeling so encouraged by reading all of this I actually have HOPE now. How awesome it would be if NCR ce's were the first Union Organized company of ce's...IBM and Diebold would be right behind us.

To the person that sent the text msg..great job..however I have talked to several coworkers across the US who never got it. Any chance you can do it again?

Please everyone vote the Union in...physically and emotionally I cant take much more of this abuse by NCR. I want to see the values this company had at one time restored ....they used to care about their employees and if they wont get their values in line with what is right then I want to have a voice in what my work life will entail. NO more 70+ hour weeks. I'm getting to old for this shit.

GO UNION AND THANKS TO ALL THE GUYS AND GALS WHO ARE WILLING TO TAKE A STAND, AND AS DR LAURA SAYS" GO DO THE RIGHT THING"

GOD BLESS US ALL

Anonymous said...

The person who made the statement about making a lis t of demands is right. We need to be careful. We are not here to put NCR out of business. We want to make them WORLD CLASS. What is most important is a true progression payscale. The need to get the ce's that are grossly underpaid to the top pay over a period of time. We also need a 40 hour work week with overtime if wanted and not forced upon us. We need to limit the number of hours you work in a 24 hr period when you are on call out. and lets not forget job security.

Anonymous said...

Ok, so you want a union. Next step is to recrute as many fellow CE's as you can. This won't be easy and management will try and downplay the union. In the Northeast they recently had a "Rolling Circus" where management went around and met with CE's to ask about their concerns, etc. Now EMAILS are being sent out telling how they're trying to change things, a bunch of crap. When the IBEW thinks enough people are pro union there will be a "secret ballot/vote" and we need a majority to win. Before this can happen the IBEW will want to send out "Union Cards" to all CE's and hopefully get many back signed. Don't use the company EMAIL or PC to send messages, use Yahoo or GMail on a personal PC. NCR has blocked outsiders from sending EMails thru their firewall but you can try. Using Text Messaging with Sprint Phones works until they block them. Go to www.sprint.com and you'll see you can enter a phone# and message up to 160 characters. To obtain phone#'s go to your NCR PC's Outlook Address Book. From there you can find Names, Address's, Job Descriptions & Phone numbers!
For now to reach the IBEW use the contacts listed bellow. As this organizing takes off I'm sure you'll be turned over to IBEW organizers in your area/region.

STEVE SMITH @ 978-302-3690, his EMAIL- smithhousem@comcast.net or GERRY LEARY, IBEW Local 2222 @
617-543-1354 or the ORGANIZING HOTLINE @ 617-929-6096 To respond by EMAIL: ibewrcn@yahoo.com

Try and provide the organizer with an Address & Phone list for all the CE's in your area/region if possible this will be very helpful. Just remember not to use your NCR PC or Cellphone for Union related activities.

Good luck and God Bless to all, let's keep the ball rolling!!

To those who mis-understood my blog yesterday,my point is that MISERY IS OPTIONAL. For those who are tired of the abuse it is time to stand up regardless of the outcome!!!!!For me I've endured enough abuse,mis-treatment,and lies from NCR!!!!
GO UNION!!!!!!GO IBEW!!!!!!
NCR has become a shitty place to work, with no respect for the CE's who alot of the times are the only ones who come into contact with the customer. We are also the ones who generate Millions in in extra revenue, but yet we are the ones who this Co. decides to SHIT on.So I've decided that I will do all that is humanly possible to see that this Co. will become a UNION Co. Which they may continue to be shitty Co. But they WILL respect Me,my Family and my fellow Co-Workers!!!!!!!!Once again GO UNION!!!!!!! GO IBEW!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think that having a Union ballot icon is a great idea. Is there a way we can do that? Can we sign up online?

IBEW all the way!

Hey Cheadle,
Wait till Friday. That is the first payday since your BRIGHT IDEA of cutting our pay. You will see this site go thru the roof with CE's venting for a UNION. I KNOW YOUR READING THIS SITE... HA HA

Anonymous said...

When we do become union all the local IBEW's will work with the National IBEW union, kinda how a mayor reports info to the Governor and Senate and from there to the House of Reps to fianally the President (This case National IBEW) and so forth. We will all be unionized under the same union and will besome brothers (and sisters). This is very exciting so if you have not done so CALL STEVE SMITH.

Anonymous said...

We will try and get out some more text messages out and e-mails. NCR is doing all it can to stop us from contacted you all. We will do our best. Do your best to get the word out. You can also text message fellow ce's. One of the above postings explains how to do this secretly

Props to the New England guys for getting this rolling. Got your text message. I work in the Southeast (Alabama to be more specific) and things suck here also. The company has yet again pushed to hard on the wrong people and its time to push back.

UNION....UNION...UNION....UNION...
SEND A MESSAGE TO MANAGEMENT... WE ARE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE...
UNION...UNION...UNION.. UNION...

NCR COULD NOT AFFORD ONE HOUR OF A NATIONWIDE OR REGIONAL WORK STOPPAGE NEVERMIND A DAY... ALL THEIR MILLION DOLLARS SALARIES AND INCENTIVES WOULD GO DOWN THE TOILET.

I do not want to ruin NCR.. I want a strong profitable NCR.. I don't care if upper management makes millios. Just don't do it by grinding us the CEs into the dirt and treating us like indentured servants that they can treat like crap without any regard for us and our families. I want all of us to share in the success of NCR, not just management.
Somebody said it best way back when.

UNITED WE STAND. DIVIDED WE FALL.

UNION NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Do you know what my biggest concern is... Its the companies matrix'. How the measure us. What the company feels is productive hours. Why are we not given any credit for doing PM'S and installs.
That is a tremendous part of our business these days. We use it as a selling tools to convince the custmer to sign contract and if we do not get to them we are penalized for it, well then we should be acknowledged for it. I am tired of constantly being told to get them done or else. I wish I could tell my manager to blow me like he asks me to blow out a machine!

Anonymous said...

This is going to be a major struggle. Last year a local TM heard there was union talk and put out a feeler to find out who is talking and a colleage trying to get ahead spilled the beans and I was put on a performance improvement plan for orchestrated reasons, as a threat for me to shut up.

Nevertheless a union is needed, hopefully it will be a good one. Out here we work our regular 40 hour week, then at least 10 to 20 more hours during the week then another 10-15 on Saturday then another 10-15 on Sunday then go right back to work Monday moring with between 25 and 40 hours overtime. During those hours we run calls at all hours, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am. There was a time when after 15 hours ot, one would earn double time and not long ago on Sunday it would be triple time. How about 3 am, what's that worth? Holidays is bullshit, you get the holiday pay just like everyone else who doesn't work and you only get extra pay when you go out. Should be mandatory 8 hours straight and 8 hours time and a half along with av pay for being on call 24 hours.

Anonymous said...

Man O Man. You non-union guys are being treated like the company owns you. I have never heard about so much abuse. I could never live like that. What took you so long to rally? Once you are all represented by the union, you will say AMEN! We should have done this sooner. We here Stand Tall with you all. Now you finally understand why we are in the union here in NY/NJ. Good Luck to you all and

Fellow CE's we are taking control of NCR's future with a union! Moral is at an all time low and it is hard to face the customer with a positive attitude. If management can't make the proper decisions to make this company strong again then we must help them. We once again have to bail out the Managers. After all this is what we do. We are fighting for our jobs (that means we are fighting for NCR) that we have all spent years and years perfecting. If the company were to make smart decisions they would be rewarding the people who make them profitable and strong. A happy positive CE in the face of the customer would go further than any advertising or selling this company could ever do. They are throwing the new guys out to customer sites with little knowledge and/or experience and the experienced CE's are sent in to bail them out. What do you think the customer is taking from this experience? Come time for contract renewal this customer will be taking this into consideration. I want NCR to succeed and I want a prosperous future with NCR and I want my family taken care of. Right now a union is the only way this can happen. Now is the time to act before it is too late (TODAY). NCR is not the only company this is happening to. There are many companies out there that are experiencing corporate greed at the expense of their employees. We are heading towards a recession and America is getting weak. The people are the backbone of America and I feel that unions are now needed more than ever not just for NCR but for our Country!!

P. S. I am from New England and am appalled at the coment made to Southern Boy by Yankee. We are all equal and in this together. There is no place in this Blog for that disrespectful Bull Shit!!

It's quite likely that I will be leaving ncr on a medical disability in the near future. The diagnosis is adrenal insufficiency. The cause is job related stress and too many hours. 30 percent overtime for 10 years. 3 days off every 2 weeks and not consecutive days off. A union is the only thing that will bring ncr back to humanity. That's my real name btw. Quick look ID gh123078

HEY>>YOU CAN ROT... Why dont you get lost. Better yet. Go F___ Yourself. Talk about a BIG MOUTH. Your mouth should have a hook in it!!! By the way. There is an empty sit on the plane next to Chris Cheadle heading back to Autrailia. Why don't you take it. Because that is where he will be heading when this company pimple pops! He has a short term deal with NCR to come here and do what he did. I believe his take will be in the Neighbor 200 million dollars. Give or take a few million. So he does not care about me or you!! he will take the money and run. So all you managers who come to this blog and spy, GET LOST! Your presence is NOT WELCOME here!!! Also, do you think he will stop here.. NO WAY.. You will be next and guess what, you wont have a UNION to help you. So fill out you applications to be a counter Manager at the GOLDEN ARCHES OR THAT FANTASY KINDOM OF BURGERS!! Dont forget your little paper hats and red vest. Very Becoming...

FLT in Philadelphia voted a union in a year or so ago and do you know what it got them? Nothing. in fact 4 CE's lost their jobs because Dell does nor do business with unionized companies due to the risk of a strike. Do you know how are other customers would react?

Anonymous said...

I am from South Carolina and have been with this company over 20yrs. Iam glad to see the guys finally say enough is enough. Just let me know how to go about joining the union....

Anonymous said...

Greg, I appreciate you coming forth with the issue you are facing. I pray and will continue to pray that everything works out for you and your family. God Bless you many times.

Anonymous said...

Thats Bull. They were not fired because of the union. And that story about Dell not doing business with union companies is so far off base. And Dell does not pay many of the bills around here anyway. 75 bucks a call. Peanuts. Dell thrives in new york and we are union!! And guess what. No one in the union gets fired for doing their jobs! and we do it quite well. if not why do I get a raise every year, did you hear me, every year. while non-union guys suffer. that talk you use is a company canned message that a manager it taught when he goes to NCR Brainwashing school. "GO UNION AND YOU WILL BE FIRED!" Please....you must be dreaming.. COME ON UNION!!!!

Anonymous said...

1st of all, NCR is not the only company that is partnered with Dell. Dell has other vendors. 2nd, I do not believe for a minute that Dell left NCR solely because Philly went union. It had to be training issues. 3rd, here in the Northeast, I can't remember the last time I had a Dell call. At least a year ago if not longer. And finally, for the cheap money we get and the grief and aggravation spent on a call, it's not worth it. We've got to be loosing money, so who cares wether they leave us or not? It's amazing how, even when NCR is loosing money with a customer, they will refuse to let that customer go. I say give that customer to our competitors and let them loose money. Layoffs are a union busting scare tactic. Be honest, we don't have enough people now.

FOR THE LAST TIME; companies do not want unions because they will have to treat us better than if we were a non-union shop because, we will now have a say in how we are treated. AGAIN, though important and usually at the top of the list, it's not only about money and benefits. I hear many, if not most of you, talking about quality-of-life; family time, too much overtime and availability, not getting 2 consecutives days off in a week, vacation, etc., etc.

For you non-believers, get the facts. Seek out both sides of the story. Speak to a union worker - in ANY industry - and ask them how they feel about working in a union shop. Do not listen to one disgrunted employee or someone from management. It's management's directive from above to discourage us. That's their job. BUT, it is our LEGAL RIGHT to organize. An organize we will.
REMEMBER, you will not pay one dime towards dues until we organize and negotiate a binding contract drawn up by and voted by US, the union members. The union is there to act as our arbitrators and legal represenstation for negotiations with the company and their legal representation. All for less that an hour's work per pay period. A BARGAIN!!!
PLEASE, GET THE FACTS - then decide! You owe at least that much to yourself.
UNITED WE STAND!

P.S. Someone should ask Mr. Pardo in the Northeast why he is unwilling to accept Steve Smith's invitation to have an open discussion with him AND us at an open meeting or conference call. Last time I went to a debate, there were people from BOTH sides offering their views. Not a one-side-cram-it-down-your-throat circus.

Anonymous said...

Gregg,
I'm sorry you got sick.
We had one of our guy's get cancer. The people in our area know it was from over work. When he went out on long term disability the company terminated him. He loved this company and his job. Most of us believed when he was fired it took away his will to live.
Years ago, management would tell your wife "We don't care how long he's out. Don't worry he'll have a job when he gets better. Call us if you need anything."
The days of good men running NCR are gone.

Anonymous said...

South Carolina is ready for a union also..We are also filing a complaint with the state for age discrimination..We all need to do that too..

Anonymous said...

I'll take a bullet for my fellow CE's who vote Union. The rest of you kiss my ass. We just started to run FLT calls again. Customer are so happy to see a train tech show up again. This is no fault of the FLT guys. They were never train and didn't have the change to learn from train CE's like I did. If your from FLT and now NCR forget the BS the old failed company taught you. You better get on board with us or you be back at FLT, but it will be called NCR.

I'm in for the Union, and so are all my co-workers. The other thing we need to do is SUE them! I'm sure all the CE3's were over 40 that's age discrimination.

HAY GREGG SEND THIS TO EVERYONE THEN. i DONT THINK THEY CAN FIRE YOU U. IF U ARE OUT ON MED DISABILITY

ALL
Employees put everything that they have into the success of your company.

Now, I am sure this would not be as big an insult if it weren’t for the knowledge that your CEO would be receiving a million dollar bonus, at the same time the CE’s are expected to only receive 1.5% of the 5% bonus they worked there butt off to acheive even with your hair brained ideas to run programsthat the ce's said would be a mess .

IF the ce's want change go to www.ncrworkers.blogspot.com

Hey ANONYMOUS I am not a manager and I bet I can fix thing better and faster than your sorry ass. A union is just for the little babies that don't want to stand up for their self. Lets all hide behind big daddy union since you don't have the balls to stand up yourself.

Hey ONCE YOU GO UNION YOU NEVER GO BACK it's not my fault Chris Cheadle is smarter than you. According to your logic CE3's should have taken a bigger cut in pay.

I stand by what I said

Togather we stand, I dont think anyone is wyning behind a Union but I do know BIG companys will eat you for lunch and with managment "micro managing" down to getting on a confrece call a half hour before you clock in and chosing favorites over qualified individuals, and working spit shifts and 13 hour days, well after complaning and getting black balled, I think we have a problem. however the union is scarry and once you join there is no leaving and NCR will no fight nice

hey mr senior manager "YOU CAN ROT"
you sorry ass cares nothing about the CE. All your after is your damned big bonus check!! Apparently you think that this is a mom and pop shop where you can go direct to your boss and he will understand that allowing for inflation your pay is deflating at 3 per cent a year har de har and after trying to keep your bills paid you don't have 2 cents to rub together! Sorry your freakin local manager doesn't care if you starve to death. This company doesn't care about the individual employee because we're just one, but if you add all the ones up finally you have a bunch. If one ce walks off the job so damn what, but if 5,000 walk off they will be forced to realize we then have power!!!!!!

Hey Rot. You need a reality check. I am a CE3 now.. I was a CE4 before this First rebanding..I really don't care what they call me. And do you know why, Thats because I still have my CE4 pay. THANKS to my wonderful, powerful union. Go TEAMSTERS. Now as for fixing things better than me, well you will never know because it looks and sounds like you are so opposed to the union that you will leave before you become a member. I never would have become what I am within my workgroup if I could not fix anything. From ATM to proof. From dell to Cisco, From Ceina to Large scale systems. From Retail to Amadeus. From Calcomp to Excide. I pretty much had all bases covered. I never had so much as a complaint. I guess that make you better then me. Why don't you just go away. This forum is not the place for you. Its people like you that bring out the worst in people. I don't know how you could look at yourself in the mirror, oh wait, that is if you have a reflection! GROW UP!

ROT is the person who cherry picks calls and fakes calls to make his numbers. He the one who calls the TM to rat on fellow workers who are having a coffee break, as he is hiding to make his numbers. He always checking on other CE's to bitch to his TM about how hard is working. His surplus is zero because he clears paper jams, and does PM's on Wal-Mart's front end. He never calls for help, because he will close the call as being fixed and hides when it come back in. A real pro????? Who are the unlucky CE's who have to work with you. Tell us what you work on mister NCR?

Just to let some of you people know, FLT also has NCR people who were here for 25 years in Retal that were told they had to go to FLT and take a huge paycut or have no job at all. I work with a guy who was on the NCR side for many years and had his pay cut by $12.00 three years ago. Also all FLT people are not untrained. I was laid off from another repair company after 20 years of computer and printer repair experience. Also we in New jersey and Philadelphia fought for a Union for three years until we finally joined the Teamsters a year ago.

We at FLT in New Jersey and Philadelphia could generate no interest in our struggle to become Teamsters from the NCR techs at the time we were organizing. Maybe now that you have been screwed again you might be interested in doing something to help yourselves.

Subject: The Employees

ALL
Employees put everything that they have into the success of your company.

Do you prefer employees who are there just for the paycheck, or employees who feel they have a stake in success??

ok guys and gals,
Big Daddy at NCR knows what we are tryin to do, well lets get it done!
Call Steve Smith and let him know where he can send the info about the union. We need to go country wide, not just by region. There are some who are opposed to our cause, dont worry, and dont give up. I'm on the west coast and have contacted as many as I could, if every one calls just a couple of buddies and tells them to do the same, I'm sure you get the picture. This isnt going to go away! DO YOU HEAR THAT MR CHEADLE? I sure hope so. The workers in the field are stock holders too. GO UNION

Anonymous said...

I hope everyone is calling Steve and getting connected with your local IBEW rep. Dont assume your coworker is doing it. We have to organize and organize fast. Time is truly of the essence. Management is going to be drawing all their guns to stop this movement. Its do or die here. Call all your coworkers and inform them of this site. Get the meetings together with your local IBEW rep and get the cards signed. All this talk is great and very encouraging but we truly need to act fast. We can use this site to keep complaining until the end of time, we all know...or I should say most of us know, its bad out there and has been for a long time but we have to hold our heads up high and fight back. This is an opportunity we have never had..the word is getting out fast...organize and lets get moving!!! Keep the Faith!

I did a search on this asshole Donald Brown and he's a territory mangager in Texas, it figures. Who the hell does he think he is anyway? He should be shot!!

I heard about the email this morning but by the time I logged on they pulled it. Thanks for posting it.. good read. However...be very careful..doing things unethical is not going to help our cause. Dont play the same games our higher management does...saying we lost revenue,etc..when we actually didnt. It was because of corporates greed, lying and lack on integrity that we are here now. Keep it honest, have the upmost integrity, do the right thing..and we will win. GO UNION

I called Steve last week and the week before and still havent recived a card. Is this going to happen or not?

Kentucky is ready for a union. enough said

As being former At&t, I have been in the CWA. And as a former union worker, there are some negative things about the union but the positive things outweigh the negative. People that think there will be job lose because of the union, you have to realize you have no job security now but with the union you will have some. The company now can get rid of people who have too much vacation, make too much money (of course they took care of that now)or just getting older. At least with the union, you have a contract both the company and the employee has to follow and the company can't change the rules daily just for their benefit and to screw us over.

Steve will be getting the cards to you all. I have been working with him in New York and he has been great. All the guys here outside of NYC (there already union) have received there cards and all but a SMALL few have sent there cards in, the remaining CE's are on the fence. It takes a week or so for Steve to get them to you. I will call Steve to follow up on the card mailings. Also, email your address to him helps. I'm assuming Steve got slammed this weekend. We also have a conference coming up that I will let you all know about in the near future.

Well said former att. Good points. Welcome aboard!

And also welcome North Carolina and Kentucky!

Hey ONCE YOU GO UNION YOU NEVER GO BACK I did not say I was smarter than you I said Chris Cheadle is smarter than you. dumb ass. Does everyone around you kiss your butt? As soon as you have someone saying something you don't like you get upset saying “Why don't you just go away. This forum is not the place for you.” I know it's not the place for me it's a place for all the losers that can't stand up without help from big daddy union.

Hey SOON TO BE LOCAL 2222 I am the one the manager calls when you can't fix the problem. The CE's I work with call me for help and when the manager says something wrong I am the one that says something about it. When was the last time you opened your mouth on a conf call or said hell no I'm not working off the clock? I have a job cause I am good at it not because I lick any managers ass

wow 179 comments in 13 days yea this union thing is really taking off.

to: you can rot

I have no problem on hearing all sides of FLT or CE's views. I respect your opionion and mine. I am also one of the CE's that seems to get dumped on as you do. I also proudly speak my mind when I feel I need to, as I have recently to my TM and RM (Hence my login name). My reasons for having a union are clear. Simply put:

We need a voice

We can agree to disagree. I wish you and your family along with every FLT/CE good fortune.

Where are all the west coast/ so. calif. ce's am i the only one who got the cell text this past sat night at 10:45 pm? I read all the blogs and from the experiences iv'e been told from the older ce's tis aparenlty isn't the first time this type of thing has happened. I most certainly don't want to go through what they have been through (I'm 2 yrs into NCR, not FLT).

Mr. (you can rot),
As sure as the sun comes up tomorrow there will be a union at NCR. Christianity started out with 12. The United States started out with 56. Both had giant empires out to kill every one of them. Each also had their back stabbing rats. Well (Mr. you can rot) I'm siding with the union. We already know who you side with you rat basted.
Oh and Mr. wanta be a lawyer Donald Brown. I say if we at the new NCR IBEW union strikes. We picket at the managers houses starting from the top down. Let’s bring it home to them. Just like we had to bring the bad news of pay cuts home our families. Look that up in your law books genius.

I've talked to my co-workers, most here in Louisiana want a Union. Do we just get cards and sign them?

Anonymous said...

I stand by what I said
“Look at everyone with their big mouth. When it's time to really do something no one will do anything. Maybe you don't get it, people will be fired. Are you going to be one of the ones that take a bullet so the rest of your team can have better? If not just craw back in your hole and rot.”

Very few of you can truly say you are not losers.

look Ive never been in a union but from what Ive read they can take on big business, You can rot states we are all sissys!! well Rot this must be youre first year give it time let them put you to work off of the clock and track you with GPS and charge you for youre drive home and cut youre pay ,,,when you speak up they will black ball you , give you jobs a far distance drive and state you are non productive, give you installs at the last minite, give you no instructions and blame you fon missing th SLA,s... ROT its not all cake and ice ceam out the you need to wear you boots and ,,well we deserve better.

Hi Rot. What is it that you are the only one that could be right?
Every one can't be wrong.

Anonymous said...

Rot.. Please be a man and go away. You can't sway the vote. It's gonna happen and you will have to pay union dues.OH MY GOD,WHAT A NIGHTMARE.. Wait a minute. You can't pay.. NCR just cut your pay again.

ROT. Are you a man or mouse. If youre a man than why why dont you go public with your NAME AND LOCATION. We hide behind our ananimity because until the union is signed in, one must be concerned about the company taking action against anyone who feels the way most of of do on this blog. But you shouldn't be afraid. Just speak up. Bill Nuti will reward you! Maybe.. So please tell us who you are.

ROTT if you were all that you say you are you would have been level 3 and would have felt the pain we feel so with that I realize you are a plant,, here to dicourage use from moving forward. I bet we could go head to head on systems and i would out work and under re work you. you are all talk and no game ,, If you stod up to your TM and RM like you state then you would be black balled all ready unless you getting or giving personal favovers "Are youre knees dirty" well if not get ready here we come

Rot it will be a cold day in hell before you can fix anything that I cant. BTW, Everyone need some help every once and a while. No one is perfect. Well maybe Heather Locklear... Stop being so FULL OF YOURSELF.

Anonymous said...

Rot..Can you honestly say that the reduction in pay twice doesn't disturb you? Most members here find it very difficult supporting their families. Why don't you sympithize the other. Are you that twisted.
