All service company's will be using "rent-a-tech" service from recruitment companys that provide technicians. It's the way of the future. A flat rate per call will be paid to the service provider. Service is not as important as it used to be. It's not a specialized area anymore. Most systems are pc based. The era of the NCR tech soon will no longer exist. It's too late to go union, or do anything about it now. We are all done, just a matter of months. NCR is one step ahead. Just be careful where the landmines are planted. If you can get a package now, it's time to get out. I wish each and everyone good luck. I see the writting on the wall. Hope you do also before it's too late.

I have been getting mailings from NCR and IBEW... When I opened them I noticed one distinct difference NCR was in black and white and the unions was in COLOR. WHY? Are we children and have to have color pushed in our faces to make us read it? And how much more $$$ did it cost to do it in color than in black and white????
When we get in the union that will be OUR money spent on stupid looking COLOR mailings.

Whatever happens here at NCR can't be good(as we have experienced so far). So lets all find new jobs at our competitors and screw NCR where it hurts! The previous posts are true. NCR will do what they want to do. There are alot of CE's who dont have the courage to vote in a Union, or the Union can't back them up on strike duty pay to help pay the mortgage or put food on the table during a strike will not vote YES! They think someone is going to call-in for a card and send it to them. If you want the Union call in yourself and request cards for everyone in your team! When the card is there in the mailbox when they come home after being thrown around like an idiot all day they will surely send it back to the postmaster with a yes. To NCR management: ACT like a respectable employer, TREAT your employees like they are your most important asset, FEEL the PAIN of your punch. Give yourself a paycut and worry how the food will get on the table after the mortgage is paid. Now take a step back and ask yourselves if you made the best decision?

What I do in the privacy of my own mansion, 2 jet airplanes, 2 world head quarters (NYC and Dayton), helicopter, yacht(the CE3), my girly man CEs who are too scared to vote union, and what ever else my greedy ass owns is my business. There was another tragedy aboard my yacht the "CE3" this weekend. Scotty my new puppy ate my cell phone and it got stuck in his butt when he tried to shit it out. That piece of junk phone broke in my hands it was so disgusting. There were at least one hundred missed calls, one hundred yelps of pain anyway.

Well Scotty is getting to be a demanding pain in the ass so I bought him a little companion whom I named Indy. A new little INDIAN BULL TERRIER pup for him to play with. He eats Wal-Mart dog food and loves to sleep outside in his Wal-Mart dog house. Hopefully Scotty will stop growling at him and me start acting more like a good little Indy pup.

Anyway JULY 18th is coming so get ready for your pay cuts you teamster scum bags. Dare you try to take my money; I mean the company’s money.

the email was really kinda funny. i wanted to ask them how my 24% paycut wasn't the same as stealing. they said an 8 week strike could cost me 5k.. geez--thats almost 9k less than the company just ripped me off for when they cut my pay-not even taking the overtime difference into account. it sure makes the union sound like a good investment doesn't it!

No matter what happens now or in the future. I believe NCR just turns used to be "WORKING HARD" CE BECOME "HARDLY WORKING" CE.
It is just simple " You got what you pay". NCR pays less then it will get less.
Young and able CE will eventully leave. the Old/experiemced will not fuction as before. NEW CE may have not much complain, but for all due respects, they will never reach the level as the old style CE. They are hired as first line and will remain first line forever. NCR will not promote them just let them come and go, so NCR will never raise the pay. It is a very sad situation for TECH. TECH used to mean something but not any more. Every US corp is following what McDonold has been doing for years. Minimu wage and part timers/outsourcing in our cases.
BUT at least we should fight. There is still a chance that we can stop the clock for a long long time. We will defintely be regret if we give in so easily now.

From the beginning and speaking for myself: My reasons for filing this case have always been about making this a better place to work for everyone.
When the NCR culture defines a "Moment of Truth" to mean an employee working off the clock for no pay on his/her day off, I won't remain silent.
I feel that our employers expectation to provide free labor just keeps getting worse. I've heard from long time employees and how things are so different now. How management doesn't just hint or pressure you to do work on your own time, they outright expect it.

I respect and admire the men and women who have worked as CE's for so many years. From my very first day, I have been inspired by the loyalty, dedication, skill and endurance that the CE3's I have had the pleasure to work with have shown.

From them, I developed and learned to have pride in my work.

It's that pride that won't allow me to give MY WORK away for free. I think a CE's work has value and they should be paid for the work they do. Not just some of it, but ALL OF IT.

If anyone else thinks they should be paid for all of the work they have done but haven't always been so in the past, here's your opportunity. Raise your voice and speak up now. Tell your story. I think you will find you're not alone.

A My manager & co-workers know I'm for the Union, I'm involved in the CLass Action Suite and have filed with the EEOC for age discrimination as every CE3 I know and myself who were demoted to a CE2 are over 40. So don't be a wimp and join the Class Action Suite now!

Yes, I agree “lying backstabbing”.
He has screwed the whole company and came out the other side smelling like a rose. It takes a heartless person to do that but who else could have done it. He did just what he needed to do to have the majority of the people on his side at the right times.

The reason the younger CEs are not sending in their cards is because they have not seen the bad side of NCR yet. They where hired and given raises at the same time NCR cut the older CEs pay. Now there are less older Ces than younger Ces so the younger ones will keep you from making a difference. Just like the last time they cut a few of the older Ces pay where was the outrage? You where then in the majority and did nothing because you where not impacted. That was a test. The same thing repeats over and over since he started just with a different groups of people.

People no longer stand up for one another and he capitalized on that.

Hi Guys,

Just stumbled across your blog. Makes very interesting reading.
I also just spoke to Steve Smith on the phone to get the lowdown.
I am a CE in the U.K, and it appears that our darling company is going to start that shit here.
We fortunately have a union, but membership was up until recently less than 50%. The company screwed us on a pay increase and it backfired on them, membership is growing at a rapid rate daily. Good luck to you guys, keep the faith, and screw the company for every $ that you can.

Well,
I don't know of anyone having been threatened and as of today, I don't feel I have been retaliated against. I know that retaliation is illegal and against the law.

As a member of the suit, I take comfort in knowing that someone's got my back. Besides,most large companies know better than to risk an additional suit for that. Also, I think the more CE's involved, the less chance of it happening.

Please don't wait until you find another job before speaking up. The entire reason for going through all this is to get fix unfair policies and get paid for the work we do. Don't you want to be around to benefit from those changes. In comparision,it wouldn't do much good to join the union after you quit right?
Do you know about the changes that happened at Walmart? The employees can't work through breaks and lunches anymore because the system automatically signs them out. I think if Walmart can change, then so can we.


If you believe one person can't make a difference, I'm am going to prove you wrong because I choose to believe in me.

One of the warning signs that there is need for a change at the place you work is when you are afraid to speak to a co-worker about the need for change. All working people live with a certain level of fear for their continued employment. We have people who depend on us. They need us to put a roof over their heads, food on the table, and provide medical care among other things. Most of us live week to week and some maybe month to month but that is the extent of our” safety net”. Should the company we work for and more importantly the company whose economic well being depends on our labor take advantage of our fears and exploit us? The company doesn’t issue a statement that you cannot speak of change. They don’t say that there will consequences for your speaking out. Then why are most people afraid to say publicly that they want change? We all know the answer to that question. What the company says and what the company will do are two very different things. Right now they have the power and they will use it. They used that power recently to steal money from the dedicated employees of NCR who are responsible for “greater than expected earnings” the company so proudly announced. I have not spoken to one CE who expects to receive the same compensation as Mr. Nuti receives but reasonably expects to be fairly compensated for their contributions to the company’s fortunes. To receive a pay cut based on some market survey rather than your contributions is as I said before; stealing.



The company has the power now because the workers stand alone against the money, the managers, and the lawyers of NCR. If we stand together and demand fairness then there is not enough money, or managers, or company lawyers to deny what is rightfully ours. The reason we can’t be defeated is simple. We are NCR! Managers direct the workers, and process the paperwork. We the workers the deliver service, we’re the reason that the company not only survives but thrives. We not Mr. Nuti and his staff of mangers are NCR! Let’s stand together and demand what is rightfully ours.

For you who have not been affected yet by the company pay cuts (rebanding is a corporate word for theft) and may have even gotten a modest raise; take a look at the CE’s who were cut. They are the senior people who dedicated themselves to making NCR a company with a reputation for excellent service. They did a damn good job of it and what was their reward… a pay cut. When you become the senior people what do you think they will do to you?



For those who have received the pay cut and are afraid to stand up ask yourself is this the end of the cuts or a new management philosophy of corporate greed. How far do they have to cut before the job won’t pay the bills?

This is a job worth standing up for. This is not a company having economic difficulties. They have the money to treat us decently as evidenced by the recently announced “greater than expected earnings”. It is a job we take pride in. It is a job we will have to fight for to keep it that way. We have the right to stand together and demand fairness. We have the right to speak with our co-workers about bringing about change. It is our choice whether or not to exercise that right. Let’s stand together we owe to our families..we owe to ourselves."

I met an electrician today while working at a Home Depot. Asked him if he was a Union Electician and he replied yes, IBEW! He also mentioned he had been with the IBEW for 22 years and that it was well worth it, benifits, pay, etc. I told him about our organizing effort and what NCR has done, he wish's us good luck! I don't have to pay dues to keep my job and I don't have to join but I choose to join because I see it as the only way to protect myself and fix some of the stupidity upper management does.

This proves how we need UNION. CE1 got a 5% raise every year for 3 years. New pay zone being set up for New York city, one week for every year, people with 40 years will get 40 weeks not 26 weeks max.

Subject: Arbitration Decision reached in NCR / Teamsters Union Negotiations

As communicated earlier this month, NCR and the Teamsters Union Local 111 (which represents NCR Customer Engineers in the New York City and northern NJ area) agreed to submit their positions to a neutral, third-party labor arbitrator from the New York metropolitan area for final resolution.

The arbitrator has just issued his decision on the issues that remained open between NCR and the Teamsters. This decision is contractually binding on both parties. Here is a summary:

The arbitrator agreed with NCR's business case and accepted the Company's position regarding its need to reband CE3's in the United States. Effective August 1, 2008, the CE3's in the New York metro area will be rebanded to the top of the CE2 pay scale.
While rebanding is always a difficult decision, the arbitrator understood and accepted the Company's business reasons and concluded that the New York area CE3's should be rebanded, as has already occurred with all other CE3's across the United States. Like the other rebanded CE3's, the base salaries of the rebanded New York CE3s will be kept whole for 18 months through a series of quarterly payments.
Related Note: NCR's Compensation & Benefits team has recommended, and Company management has approved, the creation of a new Geographic Zone 3 and a new compensation range for this zone. The Compensation & Benefits team regularly analyzes NCR's compensation and benefits programs and compares them with regional and national statistics. The most recent reviews suggested the need for a new zone to address compensation issues in the highest cost-of-living areas of the United States. The areas in Geographic Zone 3 will include Honolulu, Hawaii; the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles, San Diego and the metropolitan New York City area (includes employees living within 25 miles of NYC, Jericho, and White Plains).
As a result, effective July 1, 2009, the wage scale for CE2s in Geographic Zone 3 will be increased. This means that next July, CE3's in this geographic zone who were rebanded in 2008 and experienced reductions in compensation as a result, will move into the revised CE2 scale for Geographic Zone 3. CE3's who were rebanded will have their base adjusted to $51,500 on July 1, 2009 and will receive an additional three percent on July 1, 2010.
The arbitrator accepted NCR's and the Teamsters' agreement to increase salaries for CE1s in the New York metropolitan area by five percent (5%) for each year of the new, three-year agreement. These increases were necessary because the CE1's in New York had been compensated at a lower pay scale than CE1's in other parts of the United States. These additional increases will help to move these CE1's into the appropriate salary range.

The arbitrator directed the parties to accept NCR's proposal to enhance the severance benefit for the CE3's who will experience more than a 25% wage reduction as a result of the rebanding. The CE3's in the New York metro area have an unusually high degree of service with NCR. In fact, a significant number have 30-35-40 or more years of service. The Company recognized this and during negotiations offered to remove the 26-week cap for severance payments (i.e., one week of severance for every year of service up to 26 years) for employees electing to leave the Company.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved in these negotiations for their efforts to reach a swift conclusion. I particularly want to thank members of the Teamsters' negotiating committee, as well as all of our CEs in the New York metro area who agreed to submit these final issues to the arbitrator for resolution. With this decision in hand, our New York team can now move forward along with the rest of the U.S. as we focus our time and attention on job #1 – serving our Customers.

Im a NCR Teamster..Even though the Arbitration did not go fully in our favor I will always stand behind my UNION. If not for the Union we would have suffered this fate 3 years ago when the majority of the NON UNION CE3 Population was rebanded without a bridge. Our Union Prevailed and not only protected our wages but also negotiated raises for us.

The Union protected us then and once again has made NCR reconsider its policy about rebanding to create a Geographic Zone 3. This would not have ever been created unless there was a UNION to force the company to take a second look at their basterdized policys.

The money I have paid in dues have rewarded me ten fold in salary protection. This company is not a place to work without a UNION.

Our contract provides us much protection from NCR. When you are Union you cannot be disciplined or terminated without a JUST CAUSE. In a NON UNION workplace you can be disciplined and or fired for any reason.

The UNION has many great benefits that we have fought long and hard for.

Increased A/V Money
Consecutive Days Off
12 Hour Rule
Personal use of Company Car.
Etc.

If the rest of NCR's CE's joins a UNION together we can make this a better place to work.

As for you CE's who will be getting the Geographic Zone Increase you can thank the 200 Teamsters in NY who put it all on the line on July 1. If 200 can achieve that imagine what we can do if we are United and Organized.

Lets take this Company and our Country back from the GREEDY Men and Women who have it in their control.Before the Middle Class is all but a memory.

NCR did not create a Geographic Zone 3 out of the kindness of their hearts...The Arbitrator concluded that the NY CE-3's would recieve an additional 5000k on July 1 2009 bringing them to $51,500 before the end of the bridge.

It is all in the OTHER Cheat-All letter that was sent out to the NY CE's...2 letters with 2 different messages..Once again MORE Cheat-All Double talk..

Dont be fooled by NCR's sudden act of generosity to buy off your VOTE..NCR thinks that CE's cant see through this act. If this election fails you can rest assured the Axe and Whip will return..
Think about the Long Term even if you only plan to stay here for a few years or until the bridge runs out..Situations Change and you might find yourself needing this job more than ever..

Do not be fooled by this creation of new zone 3. Why NCR did not come out this idea before. The truth is the arbitrator DEMANDs NCR to have higher pay to teamsters. NCR does not want us to have the impression that NCR IS FORCED to raise the pay. So, they just comes out this NEW ZONE 3 thing and tries to show its GOOD WILL.
So far all the information comes out from the arbitratior is from NCR. I was told there are 20 pages about the decision of aribitrator. NCR just shows the couple issues are in their favor. And masking the higher pay demanded by aribitrator with this NEW ZONE 3 pay scheme. NCR will not pay any penny more if it is not forced to do so.
We are screwed but not in a big time. We need read the whole decision of arbitrator to count the whole score. The lesson to every NCR CE here is GO UNION. There is no other way. IF we can stick togather and fight togather
, we will be the winner.

NCR increased CE2 TOP PAY TO 51,000 AFTER WE GOT REBAND. KNEWING WE WOULD NEVER GET TO THAT POINT. NEW YORK IF YOU ARE TO GET TOP OF THE CE2 PAY SCALE, IT SHOULD BE 51,000 NOT 45,000. CHECK THIS OUT..

To the Metro New York CE Team -



As you know, the arbitrator has issued his decision and concluded that the Metro New York CE3’s will be rebanded to the top of the CE2 scale. He also directed the Company to increase the base for those rebanded employees by approximately $5,000 on July 1, 2009 and by an additional $1,700 on July 1, 2010. In addition, he accepted the Company’s proposal to enhance the severance benefits for CE3’s who experience more than a 25% wage reduction by removing the 26-week severance cap. Any employee whose compensation is being reduced by 25% or more as a result of the rebanding must advise the Company (Francene Anderson) of their decision by August 1, 2008.



I want to thank everyone from the New York Metro area. I know this has been a difficult and challenging time for everyone, and I want to express my sincere appreciation for your continued professionalism throughout the negotiating process.



Our agreement to use the arbitration process to resolve the remaining issues is another example of our mutual desire to do what is best for our Customers, and in the long run, for all NCR employees. Thank you again.

The teamster may not get what they hope for but the deal is not that bad according to the email from Mr. Cheadle. Before we can see the real decision of arbitrator, just let's do some math from his email.
In his email he said the arbitrator demands NCR
1. keeps the 18 monthes bridge pay NCR promises.
It means we will keep the current pay level for 18 monthes till July 1. 2009.
2. There SHOULD be a $5000 increase from NCR proposed $48500 by July 1.2009 to June 30. 2010.
it means we will get pay of $53500 for 1 year from July 1. 2009.
3. There SHOULD be at lease ANOTHER $1700 increase after July 1. 2010.
It means we should get pay of $55200 from July 1. 2010 to June 30. 2011.
It does hurt but we are not CUT to the bone. The aribitraor also makes a lot of good deals to the teamsters who suffer great cut of pay.Those teamster are actually close to their retirement. So, the impact to them will be reduced to minimum or even a good deal for them to retire now. We will post the detail here once we know for sure. In all, I think what we get should enought to convince the unbeliever of UNION to believe in UNION.

I am a CE1 who worked for FLT for two years and was brought over to NCR 7 months ago. I work in the Philadelphia area. My pay is $31,200. All of this is of no benefit to me . I am stuck with 2% raises if I am lucky. By the way I have 30 tears experience in other companies as a Ce. There are very few jobs out there, so I am stuck. I will make over $50,000 with the brutal overtime we are working and the on call money, but I thought my life would be a lot easier at 59 years. $51,000 regular pay would look great to me right now. It all depends on where you are looking from. The sick part is that I heard they are hiring new guys to do the same job at $2 more an hour than some of us make.

I guess NCR is feeling pretty good just about now. So now we have a bunch of even more unhappy people working here that feel as if they have been screwed over. So where do we go from here? As I see it, demoralized workers do less work, talk bad about the company to customers, develope a very bad attitude that can't help but result in poor productivity. NCR has won a victory that will result in making it a second or third class service company. The good people will leave for greener pastures leaving only the bottom of the barrel people in NCR's service force. If you think things are bad now, hang around awhile.

yes-the new pay scale for ny is better than the rest of the country. when our midpoint goes up next year by 4k i will be at 105% of that midpoint..so what kind of raise do you think i will get? very little..the raises will go to the guys lower on the midpoint-no matter how well i do or how they do. and also for the ny guys-yes you will get the bridge pay; but don't forget you will lose a bunch if you get much overtime. i am losing approx. $10/hr on overtime. the bridge pay doesn't include that. it's gonna be a rough road ahead..

Only time will tell what the true cost or should i say cost savings of all this will be to NCR and it's customers. Having a customer facing work force that is as unhappy and demoralized as we are is sure to have a negative effect. My TM has been trying for months to hire someone to fill the opening left when two CE3's quit because of the rebanding. They turn the job down when they find out what the pay is and how much on call and overtime there is. I plan to work til the bridge pay runs out and then retire with as much dignity as possible (37 years with NCR). My young coworker with 3 years in has his resume posted everywhere. He knows this is not a long term career. He wants a job that pays more than his wife makes and lets him spend more time with his family. I just hope he lasts atleast a day longer than me, I'm too old and tired to train another. Oh,and for the record if our area does go to a union vote I still will vote YES.

The bridge bonus should be included in overtime payment, according to the Fed Labor standards. Non discretionary bonus's are to be added to ones pay, and the pay recalculated with the bonus included. Therefore,you should be recieving the same rate of overtime pay as you did before the paycuts. I am waiting until the bridge payments are over before I file a complaint with the Feds. And I have it in writing that this bridge payment is indeed a nondiscretionary bonus. I have already spoken to an attorney about it.

every area has different health benefits, some can get an HMO some can't, some have other plans and the rest are stuck with Cigna. it all depends on where you live. the CE's who work in the group south of me can get an HMO but when i chose my benefits i had no choice but to choose Cigna since no other ones were offered in my area

Everybodys happy except for the guys who actually do the service work. Lets cut the pay of all the sales and office people. How about parts, they could take a hit too. I say lets have a 25% cut across the whole company. Management included. Like that will happen. I am only working at 50% from now on. You get what you pay for.

However next July 09 there pay is increased to $51,500 and the Bridge Pay will continue until January 2010. Also July 09 they will become a Geographic Zone 3 which should add about an additional 10% to there pay. On January 2010 they get another 3% raise and July 2010 another 3% raise.
So once the Bridge Pay runs out they should be making $58,350.00 and by July 2010 they'll be making $60,100.00
These totals include the assumed 10% increase for Geographic Zone 3.
All current CE-2's will be receiving a 3% across the board raise this year and the next 2 after. CE-1's will be receiving a 5% raise this
year and the following 2 after.
Any CE's who elect to retire will get Full Medical Coverage for up to 40 weeks if they've worked 40 years or more, (1 week/year worked)
And up to 40 weeks of severance pay, (1 week/year worked) The rest of us get a maximum of 26 for both medical & severance pay.

Even though NY took some pay cuts, they are far less than the rest of the CE3's took, and with their bridges and new areas, they came out pretty well. The CE2's will be given 3% raises and the CE1's are getting 5% raises for the next 3 years. Do you think NCR would have given those raises without the union? They retained all of their benefits, and even got some better ones. But the big thing is: these are quaranteed for three years.. What guarantee do the rest of us have that NCR wont cut our non-union benefits tomorrow? NONE.. They feel they own us and can do anything they want to us. Anyone that doesnt see the difference is a fool. Keep this union movement going
